2 G
REGULAR MEETING JUNE 6, 1983
6. The house with the garage on Lot 17 at Harris's
Sub facing the alley to be vacated was on the day
of my investigation apparently vacant. The house
was boarded up with the excpetion of the back
door, telephone lines were disconnected, I & M
meter was present but was disconnected.
CONCLUSION: It appears that the petitioned alley to
be vacated is a major path of travel for residents
utilizing the east/west alley between Poland and Dunham.
This is indicated thru_the widened areas adjacent to Lot
3 and also the practically impassable section of alley
between Lots 9 and 13 of Harris's Addn. as well as the
least desirable pathofthe north/south alley exit
from Tade Ct. adjacent to Lot l of Harris's Addn. At
this time, if the alley were to be vacated, I believe
the City should insist upon its turning triangle which
would necessarily have to be taken from Lot 3 of Com-
missioner's BOL. Access would have to be made available
to the garage on Lot 17.
Due to the makeup of Poland St. being a practically dead-
end street without cul-de-sac, I question whether the
vacation of this alley would be in the best interest
of the residents of both Poland and Dunham Streets. I
would surmise that the neighborhood objections to this
vacation will be vigorous as it will affect their
apparent traffic pattern.
s/ Ralph J. Wadzinski
It was additionally noted that a letter was received from Mrs.
Josephine Odynski, stating that she is against the closing of
the alley and it needs to remain open so she has access to
her garage.
Mrs. Nino, Director of El Campito, Inc., Petitioner in the
above referred to proposed alley vacation advised the
Board of her reason for requesting the alley be vacated.
She stated that the main reason for the request is for
the safety of the children attending the center. Currently
there are 56 students ranging in age 6 months to 6 years
attending the Center. She additionally stated that El
Campito purchased the lot on Poland Street and plans to
tear down the garage located on that lot. She stated that
the playground area is to be fenced in for safety.
Mrs. Evelyn Jarze, 1526 West Poland Street, stated that the
alley in question is the only way she can get into her
garage. She spoke on behalf of several of her neighbors
and stated that they have to use that alley to get into
their garages.
Mrs. Christine Ornat, 1528 West Poland Street, also indicated
that they have to use the alley on Poland Street to get in
and out of their garages. She stated that especially in the
winter time use of that alley is needed and they have in the
past paid to have the alley plowed for that purpose.
Mrs. Alice Owidak, 1529 W. Dunham Street indicated that she
has a three stall garage and she is the second property from
the alley and it is very difficult for her to get in and out.
She additionally is concerned about fire safety in the neigh-
borhood should the alley be vacated.
1
1
