REGULAR MEETING <br />11AY 31, 1983 <br />5. Jefferson Boulevard - On July 2nd, 100 E. and <br />West Jefferson Boulevard will be closed to the <br />majority of vehicular traffic with the exception <br />of buses and other necessary vehicles. This area <br />will be manned by Ethnic Festival personnel. On <br />July 3rd, this two block area will be closed to <br />all vehicular traffic from.Main Street to Service <br />Court 5. <br />6. Washington. Street from St. Joseph Street to Service <br />Court 5 will be closed at the commanding officer's <br />discretion on July 2nd and 3rd. Washington Street <br />between Service Court 5 and Rasmussen Court, will <br />be closed to all vehicular traffic on July. 2nd and 3rd. <br />7. Rasmussen Court from Washington to Jefferson will <br />be closed to all vehicular traffic on July 2nd and 3rd. <br />8. Columbia Street between Monroe and Western Avenue will be, <br />closed to all vehicular traffic at approximately <br />5:00 p.m. on July 2nd for the hot air balloon event. <br />In the event weather conditions are not suitable <br />to hot air ballooning, the closure will take place <br />on July 3rd. <br />9. On July 2nd, commencing at 8:30 a.m., South Street <br />from Lafayette to Taylor, and Williams Street from <br />Western to South Street will be closed for the <br />marshalling of the July 4th parade. At 10:30 a.m. <br />the July 4th parade will utilize Williams Street <br />from South to Colfax, Colfax from Williams to Lafayette, <br />and Lafayette Street from Colfax to South Street, <br />All cross street traffic surrounding this route will <br />be prohibited. <br />The Bureau of Traffic and Lighting will review any requests <br />for additional marshalling areas for the 4th of July parade <br />and approve those additional areas as deemed necessary and <br />safe. <br />10. On July 3rd at 8:00 a.m., a five mile race will be <br />held on the route as submitted on May 16th, 1983. <br />The race course and traffic control has been dis- <br />cussed with the Traffic Division. The petitioner <br />is to contact Captain Gargis as soon as possible <br />to make arrangements for manpower. This bureau <br />will provide the necessary barricades. <br />11. On July 3rd at 6:00 a.m, thru 10:00 a.m., endurance <br />Bike -a -Thous of 10, 50 and 100 K will commence. The <br />bicyclists are to obey all traffic and pedi-cyclist <br />laws. The event will commence in the 100 North <br />Michigan block. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr..Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and <br />carried,.the above events and street closures, based on Mr. <br />Wadzinski's recommendations, were approved. <br />APPROVE PROMOTION OF AAU GAMES TO BE HELD ON RIVER <br />BEND PLAZA JUNE 4. 1983 <br />In a memorandum to the Board, Ms. Mikki Dobski requested permis- <br />sion to hold a noon time activity on River Bend Plaza on June <br />4, 1983 as a promotion for the AAU games to be in South <br />Bend this summer. The activity will consist of an athletic <br />demonstration by nationally famous athlete, Kurt Thomas, comments <br />by public officials, and a presentation by Mayor Parent.
