225 REGULAR MEETING MAY 23, 1983 APPROVE INTENDED USE HEARING ON REVENUE SHARING FUNDS - VOLUNTEER PROGRAM ($5,000.00) City Controller Joseph E. Kernan requested Board approval for an intended use hearing on .the proposed expenditure of $5,000.00 in revenue sharing funds to be used for the Volunteer Program along with monies to be donated from the Junior League. Mr. Kernan advised that a contract will be entered into with Junior League for the coordination of the placement of volunteers within the various City Departments. Upon a motion made by Mr. Hill, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, the request was approved and a date of June 6 1983 was set for the public hearing on the intended.use of revenue sharing funds. REQUEST TO CONDUCT ACTIVITIES ON RIVERBEND PLAZA REFERRED In a memorandum to the Board, Ms. Mikki Dobski requested permission to hold the following activities in the downtown area: June 2 AAU Special Event to help promote the July games. July 3 Century Ride in conjunction with with the Ethnic Festival. A 10K, 50K and 100K bicycle ride. June 17 & 18 "The Great Outdoors" a downtown promotion. The Park and Recrea- tion Departments in conjunction with the downtown merchants are planning two days of nature related and recreational exhibits. July 6 Library Read -a -Rama. July 14 AAU Torch Relay Run. July 19 The committee for the Studebaker Museum Grand Opening has requested permission to release approximately 50 balloons during the noon hour activities. July 22 The Air Force has requested permission to display a new plane at Century Center beginning with set-up on the 22nd and continuing to the 27th. July 28 AAU Preview of Opening Ceremonies. Noon hour on the plaza. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above requests were referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department Traffic Division for review and recommendation. APPROVE REQUEST TO CONDUCT ETHNIC FESTIVAL PARADE REHEARSAL In a memorandum to the Board, Ms. Mikki Dobski, requested permission to use Lafayette Street from Central High School to Leeper Park on Tuesday, May 24th at 7:00 p.m. for rehearsal for the Alumni Band for the Ethnic Festival Parade. Approximately fifty-four (54) people will march for about one (1) hour.. Mr. Leszczynski recommended that approval be granted to the Alumni Band to conduct a rehearsal parade using a route to be approved by the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Polic Department Traffic Division. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, permission to conduct a parade rehearsal was approved subject to an acceptable route being formulated with the above two departments.
