207 <br />REGULAR <br />MEETING <br />MAY 2," <br />1983 <br />REQUEST <br />OF AMERICAN LEGION UNIT'#357 '- <br />POPPY DAYS- <br />REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Mrs. Jean Bowersox, 2021 South Warren <br />Street, South Bend, Indiana, on behalf of American Legion Unit <br />357 requested permission to sell poppies on May 20 and May 21, <br />1983 on the west side of South Bend. Upon a motion made by <br />Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the <br />above request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and <br />Lighting and the Police Traffic Division for review and <br />recommendation. <br />REQUEST OF ST STEPHEN'S PARISH TO CONDUCT RUN REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Ricardo Parra, Chairman, St. <br />Stephen's Parish Festival Race Committee, 1338 King Street,, <br />South Bend, Indiana, requested permission to conduct a <br />St. Stephen's Parish Festival Run in conjunction with their <br />parish festival. The run is to be held on August 6, 1983. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan <br />and carried, the above request was referred.to the Bureau of <br />Traffic and Lighting and the Police Traffic. Division for <br />review and recommendation. <br />REQUEST OF ST. ADALBERT'S CHURCH TO CONDUCT SUMMER <br />FESTIVAL AND CLOSING OF GRACE STREET REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Rev. Eugene J. Kazmierczak, Pastor, <br />St. Adalb.ert's Church, on behalf of the Parish Council, <br />requested permission to sponsor their annual Summer Festival <br />on July 15, 16, and 17, 1983. The festival will be held on <br />parish grounds. They additionally request permission to <br />close the area of Grace Street immediately south of the <br />parish for the above three days. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the above <br />request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting <br />and the Police Traffic Division for review and recommendation. <br />REQUEST TO PURCHASE CITY -OWNED PROPERTY REFERRED (1034 W. NAPIER) <br />A letter was received from Ellis and Viola Vanison, 318 <br />McPherson, South Bend, Indiana, stating their interest in <br />purchasing the above referred to property. Mr. and Mrs. <br />Vanison state that they own the property located at 318 <br />McPherson and the above named lot is behind their property <br />to the North. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded <br />by Mr. Hill and carried, the request was referred to the <br />necessary City Departments and Bureaus for a determination <br />as to whether or not the City need retain the lot for any reason. <br />REQUEST TO PURCHASE CITY -OWNED PROPERTY REFERRED (1320 W. JEFFERSON) <br />A letter was received from Mr. Edward Washington, 210 South <br />Chestnut, South Bend, Indiana stating his interest in purchas- <br />ing the above referred to property. Mr. Washington states <br />that he owns the house right next door to the lot owned by <br />the City. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded <br />by Mr. Hill and carried, the request was referred to the <br />necessary City Departments and bureaus for a determination <br />as to whether or not the City need retain the lot for any <br />reason. <br />ACCEPT OFFER TO PURCHASE 'CITY -OWNED PROPERTY (217 N. KENMORE) <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Board opened sealed bids for <br />the sale of this property on April 25, 1983 and that the bid <br />of Mr. Robert Johnson, 209 North Kenmore Street was the only <br />bid received. Mr. Johnson stated that he would purchase the <br />property at the appraised price of $220.00 if the lot was <br />filled with dirt so it could be used for a garden. He <br />further stated that at one time a house stood on the <br />property and after it was demolished the lot was never <br />filled completely. A determination by the Department of <br />Code Enforcement indicates that the lot has settled and does <br />
