193 <br />REGULAR MEETING APRIL 18, 1983 <br />REQUEST FOR STUDEBAKER DRIVER'S CLUB PARADE REFERRED <br />In a memorandum to the Board, Ms. Mikki Dobski stated that <br />Ms. Cindy Brown, Meet Director, has submitted the following <br />route for Board consideration for a parade to be held on <br />Saturday, July 23, 1983. The route is as follows: line-up <br />on Jefferson Street between Taylor and Lafayette. Proceed <br />down Lafayette from Jefferson to Sample Street. Upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan and <br />carried, the above request was referred to the Bureau of <br />Traffic and Lighting and the Police Traffic Division for <br />review and recommendation. <br />REQUEST TO CONDUCT HORSE AND CARRIAGE SERVICE REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Lin Dowdy indicated that she <br />would like to offer a horse and carriage service from the <br />Marriott and Americana hotels to the various eating establish- <br />ments downtown. She indicated that.the hotels, restaurants and <br />Chamber of Commerce are in favor of the idea. She stated that <br />the carriages are very sturdy, the drivers are professionals <br />and the horses are well trained. She will provide the necessary <br />insurance. The letter further states that she would like to <br />begin working 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays <br />and on Sunday afternoons. She would appreciate it very much <br />if the City or someone would donate a small area or garage, <br />in the East Bank area so that she could convert it into an <br />authentic looking livery. The horses and carriages would be <br />kept there on weekends while the service is in business. <br />During the week the horses would go home. She stated that <br />the carriages have rubber wheels and lights and the horses <br />wear diapers so no clean-up is necessary. <br />Ms. Lin Dowdy, 55455 Elder Road, Mishawaka, Indiana and Mr. <br />Sam Thompson, 5555 Fir Road attended the Board meeting and <br />presented the Board.with letters of support from Captain. <br />Alexander's Moonraker restaurant,. The Americana of South <br />Bend hotel, the East Bank Emporium restaurant and the <br />Tippecanoe Place restaurant. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the above <br />request was referred to the Police Department, Bureau of <br />Traffic and Lighting, Health Department, City Attorney's <br />Office and the Park Department for review and recommendation. <br />REQUEST TO PURCHASE CITY -OWNED PROPERTY REFERRED (1034 E. CEDAR) <br />A letter was received from Mr. Charles A. Rupley, 17008 Douglas <br />Road, South Bend, Indiana stating his interest in purchasing <br />the above referred to property. He stated that he has just <br />purchased a house located at 1032 East Cedar Street which <br />is adjacent to the city -owned lot. Upon a motion made by <br />Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the <br />request was referred to the necessary City departments and <br />bureaus for a determination as to whether or not the City <br />need retain the lot for any reason. <br />REQUEST TO PURCHASE CITY -OWNED PROPERTY REFERRED <br />11011 & 1020 WEST JEFFERSON) <br />A letter was received from Mr. Fred Wilson, 1017 North Meade <br />Street, stating his interest in purchasing the.lots known as <br />1018 and 1020 West Jefferson Street. He further stated that <br />he currently owns the property at 1022 West Jefferson Street. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by"Mr: Kernan <br />and carried, the request was.referred to the necessary City <br />departments and bureaus for a determination as to whether or <br />not the City need retain the lot for any reason. <br />
