<br />Citizens Group of LaSalle Park, Harvest House Centers and Howard
<br />Park Senior Citizens' Center. There was .no one present to speak
<br />against the proposed expenditure. Upon a motion made by Mr.
<br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the public hearing
<br />on this appropriation was closed. Upon a motion made by Mr.
<br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the Clerk
<br />was instructed to forward a favorable recommendation on this
<br />appropriation to the Controller's Office and the City Clerk's
<br />office along with minutes of the public hearing on this matter.
<br />AWARD BID - CALVERT STREET WEST OF MAPLE ROAD, ROADWAY DEMUCKING,
<br />STORM SEWER, SANITARY SEWER AND APPURTENANCES (ETHANOL PLANT PROJECT)
<br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Neil Shanahan, Manager, Bureau of
<br />Public Construction, recommended,the Board award the low bid of
<br />H. DeWulf Mechanical Contractor, Inc., 58600 Executive Drive,
<br />Mishawaka, Indiana, for the Calvert Street West of Maple Road
<br />Project (83-9) in the amount of $746,874.80. It was noted that
<br />bids for this project were opened at the Board meeting held on
<br />March 14, 1983. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded
<br />by Mr. Hill:and carried,.the above bid in the amount of
<br />$746,874.80 was _awarded.
<br />AWARD BID - CALVERT STREET FROM MAPLE ROAD TO OLIVE STREET -
<br />STORM SEWER, SANITARY SEWER, SANITARY SEWER LIFT STATION,
<br />ROADWAY DEMUCKING, CONCRETE PAVEMENT AND APPURTENANCES
<br />(ETHANOL PLANT PROJECT)
<br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Neil Shanahan, Manager, Bureau of
<br />Public Construction, recommended the Board award the low bid
<br />of H. DeWulf Mechanical Contractor, Inc., 58600 Executive
<br />.Drive, P.O. Box 986, Mishawaka, Indiana for the Calvert Street
<br />Maple to Olive Project (83-7) in the amount of $799,000.00.
<br />It was noted that bids for this project were opened at the
<br />Board meeting held on March 14, 1983. Upon a motion made by
<br />Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above
<br />bid in the amount of $799,000.00 was awarded.
<br />APPROVE RELEASE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,
<br />1ST SOURCE BANK AND NEW ENERGY COMPANY OF INDIANA
<br />(ETHANOL PLANT PROJECT)
<br />Mr. Hill advised the Board that the Release Agreement provides
<br />for the conveyance of land from New Energy Company of Indiana
<br />to the City of South Bend for the extension of Calvert Street
<br />and an area of land for a storm retention lagoon. Upon a
<br />motion made by Mr. Kernan, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried,
<br />the above Release Agreement was approved and signed.
<br />COMBINED POLICE/FIRE COMMUNICATIONS CENTER - REQUEST OF
<br />MAYOR TO CONTACT VENDOR AND CONTRACTOR
<br />Mayor Roger 0. Parent addressed the Board and requested that
<br />the Board contact the vendor and contractor who were awarded
<br />the bid for the radio communications consoles and related
<br />equipment and the reconstruction of the radio room (old
<br />City jail) in the MSF building at 701 West Sample Street to
<br />determine if the bid price could be held for a period of
<br />ninety (90) days. The Mayor stated that the ninety -day delay
<br />is to show good faith while discussions and negotiations are
<br />taking place with interested elected officials to take action
<br />for a county -wide emergency communications system. He further
<br />stated that he is willing to work towards contract agreements
<br />with all units of government, whereby the City of South Bend
<br />would provide county -wide emergency communications. Additionally
<br />the filing of the appropriation request to fund the equipment
<br />purchases and other requirements will be delayed for ninety
<br />(90) days.
<br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Hill, seconded by Mr. Kernan and
<br />carried, Mr. Leszczynski, as President of the Board, was
<br />authorized to contact the vendor and contractor to whom the bids
<br />were awarded consistent with the Mayor's request.
