43 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />MARCH 7. 1983 <br />APPROVE THIRTEENTH ANNUAL ST. JOSEPH RIVER RUN (MAY 21, 1983) <br />Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager, Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, <br />recommended approval of the request of Michiana Watershed, Inc.. <br />to conduct the St. Joseph River Run canoe race to be held on <br />May 21, 1983 commencing at 11:00 a.m. at the Leeper Park <br />Island area. The event will require the closing of Bartlett <br />Street from Michigan to. Riverside Drive and the closing of <br />Riverside Drive from Navarre to Lafayette Street. He additionally <br />stated that this event will be held in concurrence with.the <br />annual Pepsi Challenge Run which will take place two (2) <br />hours earlier in the Pinhook Park area. Upon a motion made <br />by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the <br />above request was approved. <br />APPROVE PEPSI REGIONAL 10,000 RUN RACE (MAY 21, 1983) <br />Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager, Bureau of Traffic and Light- <br />ing recommended in concurrence with the Traffic Division of <br />the South Bend Police Department, the approval of the request <br />of Dean A. Reinke, President Athletic Annex on.behalf of the <br />Athletic Annex, the WNDU stations and the Pepsi Cola Company <br />(Cardinal. Bottling) to conduct their annual foot race to be <br />held on May 21, 1983 at 9:OO.a.m. The route to be used is <br />as follows: Start on Riverside Drive at Sewage Treatment <br />Plant, to Boland Drive, to Portage, to Cleveland Road, to <br />Riverside Drive, to Brown School/Beale Street area, to <br />Riverside Drive and finish in Pinhook Park parking lot. He <br />additionally stated that this event will be held in concurrence <br />with the Thirteenth Annual St. Joseph River Run canoe race <br />sponsored by Michiana Watershed, Inc. Upon a motion made by <br />Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above <br />request was approved. <br />APPROVE "DAFFODIL DAYS" - AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised the Board that Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, <br />Manager, Bureau of Traffic and Lighting has reviewed the request <br />of the American Cancer Society to conduct their annual Daffodil <br />Days on Friday, March 25, 1983 and Saturday, March 26, 1983 on <br />the public sidewalks. Based on the list submitted by the <br />American Cancer Society indicating the locations where the <br />volunteers will be located, the following locations will not <br />be allowed: <br />1. No intersections in the downtown area on <br />LaSalle Street. <br />2. Ireland and U.S. 31 (traffic flow is <br />extremely high, complicated multi - <br />phased signalization, no sidewalks). <br />3. The intersection of Cleveland Road and <br />Ironwood is in the County and not under <br />this jurisdiction. <br />He further advised that provided the solicitors operate from <br />the sidewalk and refrain from using the intersections listed <br />above, the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting has no objections <br />to the event. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded <br />by Mr. Hill and carried, the above request as amended was <br />approved. <br />APPROVE LICENSE APPLICATION - SECONDHAND DEALER <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that a renewal application for a <br />Secondhand Dealer's License was received from Bob and Ed <br />Filley, 2214 Mishawaka Avenue for a license for Benners <br />White Elephant Shop, 2216 Mishawaka Avenue.
