113 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />JANUARY 31, 1983 <br />APPROVE EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY POLICY STATEMENT <br />OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br />Ms. Eugenia S. Schwartz, Assistant City Attorney, advised <br />the Board that this Policy Statement was developed as a <br />joint effort by the City Attorney's office, the Office of <br />Administration and Finance and the Community Development <br />Department. The policy sets forth the goals and guidelines <br />for the City with the exception of Police and Fire sworn <br />officers who are guided by the Board of Public Safety policies. <br />It sets out procedures that the City has been following in a <br />draft policy statement adopted in 1976. This policy state- <br />ment sets forth in writing what _the City is doing to offer <br />equal employment opportunities to its employees and contractors <br />who work with the City. Mr. Hill commended the work of Ms. <br />Schwartz, Chief Deputy Thomas Bodnar of the City Attorney's <br />office and Jon Oppenheim of the Department of Administration <br />and Finance in preparing this statement. Upon a motion made <br />by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the <br />above policy statement was approved. <br />PETITION FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A RESIDENTIAL <br />PARKING ZONE - REFERRED <br />Mr. Leszczynski presented to the Board a Petition for the <br />Establishment of,a residential parking zone which was received <br />from Ms. Mildred E. Westfall of 840 North Main Street, South <br />Bend, Indiana. The petition requests a traffic study be <br />conducted in the area of North Main Street (814-840) between <br />Bartlett and Park Lane. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, <br />seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above petition was <br />referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting for its review <br />and recommendation. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS - <br />CONSTRUCTION OF A COMBINED COMMUNICATIONS FACILITY <br />Mr. Leszczynski requested permission to advertise for the <br />receipt of sealed bids for the construction of a combined <br />communications facility. He stated that it is the City's <br />intention to remodel the unused old city jail for this <br />purpose. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by <br />Mr. Hill and carried, the above request was approved. <br />APPROVE WINTER CELEBRATION RUN - FEBRUARY 5, 1983 <br />Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of Traffic and <br />Lighting, recommended approval of the Winter Celebration Run <br />sponsored by the Saint Joseph's Medical Center to be held on <br />February 5, 1983, in conjunction with the City of South Bend's <br />Winter Celebration. The course approved starts on Alpine <br />Drive near Miami Street, run to Y o rk Road, York Road to <br />Byron Drive, Byron Drive to Springbrook, Springbrook to <br />Woodmont, Woodmont to Altgeld, Altgeld to York Road, York to <br />Ridgedale, Ridgedale to Caroline, Caroline to Springbrook, <br />Springbrook to Byron, Byron on to York, York to Alpine. <br />The one mile essentially goes out one-half mile and turns <br />around. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by <br />Mr. Hill and carried, the above request was approved as <br />recommended. <br />APPROVE WORLD'S LARGEST GARAGE SALE - JUNE 4, 1983 <br />Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of Traffic <br />and Lighting, and Mr. Ted Latkowski, Director of Parking <br />recommended approval of the World's Largest Garage Sale to <br />be held on Saturday, June 4, 1983, in the Colfax Parking <br />Garage. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by <br />Mr. Hill and carried, the above request as submitted was <br />approved. <br />
