5(1) <br />REGULAR MEETING NOVE14BER 22, 1982 <br />REVOCATION OF RESTAURANT LICENSE - GENE'S RESTAURANT <br />Mr. Leszczynski stated that the Board of Public Works had held a <br />public hearing on October 18, 1982, and had continued the matter <br />of the revocation of the restaurant for'Gene's Restaurant, 1212 <br />North Bendix Avenue, to the November 15, 1982, regular meeting. <br />The public hearing had been necessary because of Mr. Harmon's <br />failure to install required fire extinguishing equipment. At <br />the November 15th meeting of the Board, the fire inspector <br />informed the Board that Mr. Harmon had advised the equipment <br />had been ordered and it would only take a couple of days to <br />complete the installation. In view of the representation <br />made by Mr. Harmon to the fire inspector, the Board had granted <br />another extension for compliance and had determined if the <br />required equipment was not installed.and in operating condition <br />by November 22, 1982, the restaurant license would berevoked <br />without further public hearing by the Board. Mrs Eugenia <br />Schwartz, Assistant City Attorney, advised that she had <br />received a letter from Assistant Fire Chief George Gyori <br />informing her that Centurion Fire Safety was installing the <br />equipment; however, Mr. Harmon had been very uncooperative in <br />the matter and at least another five hours would be required <br />to complete the work. Fire Inspector Robert Janowiak advised <br />that he had talked with Mr. Harmon on Friday, November 19th, <br />and he had been assured the work would be completed today.; He <br />advised that the work was not yet done.: Mr. Hill stated that, <br />in accordance with the Board's decision of November 15, 1982, <br />the restaurant license should be revoked because of Mr. Harmon's <br />failure to comply. Mr. Kernan advised that Mr. Harmon, if he <br />completed the necessary installation, would be required to` <br />make application for a new license. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Hill, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the restaurant license <br />for Gene's Restaurant, 1212 North Bendix Drive, was revoked <br />this date. <br />APPROVE ADVERTISING FOR BIDS - JANITORIAL SERVICES (POLICE DEPT. <br />Police Chief Dan Thompson requested permission to advertise for <br />the receipt of sealed bids for annual janitorial services at <br />the Police Department and three police sub -stations. Upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan and <br />carried, the request was approved, and a bid date of December <br />13, 1982, established. <br />APPROVE ADVERTISING FOR BIDS - PROTECTIVE CLOTHING (FIRE DEPT. <br />Fire Chief Timothy J. Brassell requested permission to cause <br />advertising for the purchase of bunker pants for the Fire <br />Department, the purchase of which would be funded in the 1983 <br />budget. Assistant Fire Chief Richard Switalski advised that <br />the department was required to make changes in the firefighters' <br />protective clothing by OSHA and this would be accomplished over <br />the next few years. Upon a.motion made by Mr. Kernan, seconded <br />by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, the request was approved, and <br />a bid date of December 13, 1982, established. <br />APPROVE PIE -EATING CONTEST ON RIVER BEND PLAZA <br />Mikki Dobski, Recreation Events Coordinator for the city, requested <br />permission on behalf of Dainty Maid Bake Shop to conduct a pie - <br />eating contest on the Plaza stage on Tuesday, November 23, 1982, <br />at 12:00 noon in conjunction with the Downtown Holiday promotion. <br />It was noted that the required $1,000,000 liability insurance with <br />the City of South Bend named as an additional insured was provided. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and <br />carried, the request was approved. <br />LJ <br />1 <br />1 <br />
