459 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />DECEMBER 17, 1984 <br />projects. It was noted that the final cost of the Bid Packet #1 <br />Project was $29,700.00 and the final cost of the Bid Packet #2 <br />Project was $9,900.00. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, <br />seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above Project Completion <br />Affidavits were approved and the three-year Maintenance Bonds as <br />submitted were filed. <br />APPROVE CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 - STUDEBAKER CORRIDOR PHASE I PROJECT <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that Rieth-Riley Construction Company, <br />Inc., P.O. Box 1775, South Bend, Indiana has submitted Change <br />Order No. 1 for the above referred to project indicating an <br />increase of $52,699.96 for a new contract sum including this <br />Change Order in the amount of $155,153.96. It was noted that this <br />Change Order involves changes in fourteen (14) items as well as <br />the addition of the north side of Sample Street from Lafayette to <br />Chapin Street to the project. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, Change Order No. 1 <br />as submitted was approved. <br />REQUEST OF MATHEWS-PURUCKER ANELLA, INC. TO CLOSE PORTION OF <br />COLFAX AVENUE DURING CONSTRUCTION OF ADDITION TO SOUTH BEND <br />TRIBUNE BUILDING REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Stephen Eddy, Mathews <br />Purucker-Anella, Inc., 218 South Frances Street, South Bend, <br />Indiana, advised that his firm is presently involved in the <br />planning of a two-story addition to the South Bend Tribune <br />Building at 225 West Colfax Avenue. The present site of the old <br />Elks Building will be the new location. The project will involve <br />demolition of the existing building and construction of a new <br />two-story building. The intended use is for storage and offices. <br />Due to the location and available work space, it will be necessary <br />to close the parking lane and install a covered pedestrian <br />walkway. They propose to leave 12'-0" of driving lane from the <br />center line of Colfax Avenue to the edge of the pedestrian <br />walkway. The alley will need to be closed during construction, as <br />well as part of Colfax Avenue for the above specified purpose. <br />Work will commence the first part of 1985 and be completed by the <br />end of the year. Submitted with the request was a site plan of <br />the area showing intended use of barricades and walkway. Upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, <br />the above request to close the alley and a portion of Colfax <br />Avenue was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, Police <br />Department Traffic Division and Building Department for review and <br />recommendation. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS - SALE OF <br />ABANDONED VEHICLES <br />Ms. Katherine Barnard, Director, Department of Code Enforcement, <br />requested permission to advertise for the sale of approximately <br />fourteen (14) abandoned vehicles, one (1) of which is valued at <br />over $100.00 and all of which are being stored at South Bend Auto <br />Parts, 1802 South Main Street, South Bend, Indiana. It was noted <br />that all vehicles have been stored more than thirty (30) days, <br />identification checks had been run for auto theft and the owners <br />and lienholders notified. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, <br />seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above request was approved <br />and a date of December 31, 1984 was established for the receiving <br />and opening of sealed bids. <br />APPROVE RECOMMENDATION TO DENY TAXICAB DRIVER'S LICENSE <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Michael L. Vance, City Controller, <br />advised that after reviewing the facts and background information, <br />it is his recommendation that the Taxicab Driver's License <br />application of Mr. Randy Hess, 1730 South Kendall Street, South <br />Bend, Indiana, be denied.
