<br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS
<br />STUDEBAKER CORRIDOR PHASE I PROJECT
<br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Neil Shanahan, Manager, Bureau of
<br />Public Construction, requested that the Board advertise for the
<br />receipt of bids for the. Studebaker Corridor Phase I Project.
<br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that this project will consist of curb,
<br />sidewalk and landscaping improvements. Upon a motion made by
<br />Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the above
<br />request was approved
<br />REQUEST OF OUR LADY OF HUNGARY SCHOOL TO CLOSE CHAPIN & BRUCE
<br />STREETS FOR PARISH FUN FAIR AUGUST 18, 1984 REFERRED
<br />In a letter to the Board, Keith and Kathy Jackson, Chaircouple
<br />for the Our Lady of Hungary School Fun Fair, 735 West Calvert
<br />Street, South Bend, Indiana, requested that Chapin Street,
<br />between Calvert and Bruce Streets and Bruce Street between
<br />Chapin and Catalpa Streets be closed on August 18, 1984, from
<br />4:00 p.m. to 12:00.midnight for the annual Home and School Fun
<br />Fair. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr.
<br />Vance and carried, the above request was referred to the Bureau
<br />of Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department Traffic
<br />Division for review and recommendation.
<br />REQUEST OF YOUTH SERVICE BUREAU TO CONDUCT FUNDRAISING BREAKDANCE
<br />CONTEST ON RIVER BEND PLAZA - AUGUST 8, 11, 18 & 25, 1984 REFERRED
<br />In a Memorandum to the Board, Ms. Laurie Green of the Youth Service
<br />Bureau, 2222 Lincolnway West, South Bend, Indiana, requested the
<br />use of River Bend Plaza for a proposed fundraising event, an
<br />elimination style breakdance contest for youth on August 8,-11,
<br />18 with one contest each day and the final elimination contest
<br />on August 25, 1984. Ms. Green advised that the contest would
<br />begin each day at 2:00 p.m. and that money prizes donated by
<br />community businesses and clubs would be awarded to contest
<br />winners. A one dollar ($1.00) entry fee for all dancing
<br />participants would be charged and at the final elimination
<br />contest a two dollar ($2.00) fee will be charged for admission,
<br />All participants will be required to sign a statement releasing
<br />the City of South Bend from any liability due to injury. The
<br />use of a raised platform for the dancers from the Park Depart-
<br />ment will be utilized and refreshments will be sold to increase
<br />profits. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr.
<br />Vance and carried, the above request was referred to the Bureau
<br />of Traffic and Lighting, the Police Department Traffic Division
<br />the Office of Community Affairs and the City Attorney's office
<br />for review and recommendation.
<br />APPROVE REQUEST OF NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LETTER CARRIERS
<br />TO CONDUCT ANNUAL MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY ASSOCIATION
<br />INTERSECTION SOLICITATION - JULY 29. 1984
<br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Karen S. Locke, District Director,
<br />National Association of Letter Carriers, South Bend Branch.#330,
<br />103 West Wayne Street, Room 307, South Bend, Indiana, requested
<br />permission to hold their annual Muscular Dystrophy Association
<br />Intersection Solicitation on Sunday, July 29, 1984 from 12:00
<br />noon to 4:00 p.m. at the following intersections:
<br />1. Miami & Ireland
<br />2. Edison &.Ironwood
<br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager,
<br />Bureau of Traffic and Lighting has reviewed this request and
<br />recommends that the Association be allowed to solicit funds
<br />at the Edison and Ironwood intersection but recommended denial
<br />of the request to solicit at the intersection of Miami &
<br />Ireland. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by
<br />Mr. Vance and carried, Mr. Wadzinski's recommendation was
<br />accepted and approval granted to solicit at the intersection
<br />of Edison & Ironwood.
