Their objectives are to
improve the appearance, security and business climate in
this area to make a better impression on visitors entering
the City from the South. One of the immediate projects to
help achieve this is the display of the United States flag by
the residents and businesses in the area (approximately 100-
200 locations). The Association plans to purchase kits,
consisting of a 17 foot pole and a 3'x5' flag, to be installed
in the tree lawns five (5) feet from the curb. These poles
will be removable from a two (2) inch plastic socket which
will be installed twenty-four inches (24) deep in the ground
and the top will be flush with the surface. An experienced
contractor will install these sockets at each location after
the utility companies check and approve each site. The
Assocation is also contacting the Indiana State Highway Depart-
ment regarding the Michigan Street right-of-way. Mr. Shafer
advised that approval of this project is requested as soon
as possible as they hope to have installation completed in
time for July 4, 1984 display. Upon a motion made by Mr.
Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the above
request was approved subject to subsequent review and con-
currence by the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and City
Attorney's office and the filing of a $5,000,000.00 Certificate
of Insurance naming the City of South Bend as an additional insured.
APPROVE TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES
Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and
carried, the following five (5) traffic control devices were
approved:
REVISE TO STOP SIGN - On Campeau at Jacobs.
