REGULAR MEETING <br />MAY 14, 1984 <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF MADISON SCHOOL HOME SCHOOL ASSOCIATION <br />TO CLOSE STREET FOR ICE CREAM SOCIAL (MAY 18, 1984) <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Linda K. Troester, Secretary, <br />Madison Home School Association, requested that Park.Lane be <br />closed between Lafayette and South Main Streets on May 18, 1984 <br />(rain date May 19, 1984) between the hours of 5:30 P.M. to <br />9:00 p.m, as Madison School will be conducting an Ice Cream <br />Social and would like the street closed to insure the safety <br />of the children. Mr. Leszczynski further advised that Mr. <br />Ralph J. Wadzinski,.Manager, Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, <br />has reviewed this reque.st and recommends approval. It was <br />noted that the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting will provide the <br />necessary barricades and the Petitioner will be responsible for <br />placing and manning the barricades when the street is closed. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and <br />carried, Mr. Wadzinski's recommendation was accepted and the. <br />request approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF,WEST SIDE MEMORIAL COMMITTEE TO <br />HOLD ANNUAL MEMORIAL DAY PARADE (MAY 28, 1984) <br />In a letter to the. Board, Ms. Adeline Waslicki, Secretary, West <br />Side Memorial Committee, requested permission to hold the annual <br />Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 28, 1984. Ms. Waslicki <br />advised that the parade will assemble at 8:00 a.m, at Olive and <br />Ford Streets and will move out at 8:30 a.m. and proceed west on <br />Ford Street past Pierre Navarre School where it will disband. <br />The total time from start to finish will be approximately one <br />and one-half hours. Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr. Ralph J. <br />Wadzinski, Manager, Bureau of Traffic and.Lighting, has reviewed <br />this request and recommends approval. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, Mr., Wadzinski's <br />recommendation was accepted and the request approved. <br />REQUEST OF HILLTOP GOSPEL CHURCH TO CLOSE STREET <br />FOR HILLTOP SERVICES JUNE 17, 1984 REFERRED <br />In a Memorandum to the Board, Rev. L. James Perry, Chairman, <br />Hilltop Gospel Committee and Mr. DeWitt Hunter, 1238 E. Miner <br />Street, South Bend, Indiana, requested that Washington Street <br />between Liberty and Iowa Streets be blocked off on Sunday, June <br />17, 1984 from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. for purposes of the <br />church's yearly Hilltop Services. They additionally requested. <br />that an officer be on duty. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, <br />seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above request was referred <br />to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department <br />Traffic Division.for review and recommendation. <br />FILING OF RESOLUTION OF INDIANA DEPARTMENT OF <br />HIGHWAYS ESTABLISHING PREFERENTIALITY <br />Mr. Leszczynski presented to the Board a Notice of Official Action <br />of the Indiana Department of Highways indicating that preferentiality <br />shall be established at the intersection of U.S. 20 (LaSalle Street) <br />and U.S. 20 (Lafayette Street) in the City of South Bend, St. <br />Joseph County, as follows: This intersection is signalized and in <br />the event of need for a flashing operation of the signals this. <br />signal shall flash Red to North, West and East approaches. All <br />traffic on all approaches shall STOP before entering the inter- <br />section of U.S. 20 (LaSalle Street) and U.S. 20 (Lafayette Street) <br />during the flashing operation of the traffic signal. It was <br />additionally noted that there are only three (3) approaches to <br />this intersection and that U.S. 20 (Lafayette Street) is one-way <br />northbound. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by <br />Mr. Vance and carried, the above Resolution was filed. <br />
