REGULAR MEETING APRIL 16, 1984 <br />Petitioner will be requested to man the barricades while the <br />street is closed. Upon a motion made by Mr. Vance, seconded <br />by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, the above recommendation was <br />accepted and the request approved.. <br />APPROVAL OF DATE FOR REGIONAL FINALS FOR INTERNATIONAL AMERICAN SOAP <br />BOX DERBY SPONSORED BY THE NEIGHBORHOOD YOUTH INVOLVEMENT COUNCIL <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski has reviewed <br />the request of the Neighborhood Youth Involvement Council submitted <br />to the Board on March 19, 1984 and recommends that the original <br />requested date of July 7, 1984 and additionally the date of July <br />8, 1984 be approved for the Soap Box Derby. The additional date <br />is a contingency date based upon expected response to the Soap <br />Box Derby. Mr. Wadzinski further advised that no route is being <br />submitted for approval at: this time. He stated that approximately <br />twelve (12) locations in the South Bend area have been presented <br />to the organization for their review. Selection of a final site <br />will be predicated upon the number of entries which will dictate <br />the required viewing and parking areas. Site locations will be <br />forwarded at a later date by the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr.. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and <br />carried, the above dates of July 7 and July 8, 1984 were reserved <br />for the Neighborhood Youth Involvement Council Soap Box Derby with <br />the route to be submitted and approved at a later date. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS - <br />RECONDITIONING OF ONE (1) 1971 WARD LA FRANCE <br />PUMPER APPARATUS (FIRE DEPARTMENT) <br />In a letter to the Board, Fire Chief Timothy J. Brassell, requested <br />that the Board advertise for the receipt of bids for the recondition- <br />ing of one (1) 1971 Ward LaFrance pumper apparatus. He advised that <br />this will consist of refurbishing the cab, installing a new body and <br />water tank and a complete paint job. It is expected that this re- <br />furbishing will cost approximately $25,000.00. Upon a motion made <br />by Mr. Vance, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, the above <br />request was approved. <br />REQUEST TO HAVE 500 BLOCK OF .23RD STREET CLOSED FOR <br />WEDDING RECEPTION (MAY 1)1984) REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Wendy L. Bowers, and Mr. Paul R. <br />Vanderhegghen, 521 South 23rd Street, South Bend, Indiana, indicated <br />that they will be married on May 1, 1984 and would like to have a <br />block party for the reception. They indicated that they would like <br />to have part of the street blocked off from 511 South 23rd Street <br />to 530 South 23rd Street from 3:00 p.m. until midnight. Upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, <br />this request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting <br />and the Police Department Traffic Division .for review and recom- <br />mendation. Further, the Clerk was instructed to contact Ms. Bowers <br />and Mr. Vanderhegghen to request that they contact the residents <br />of the 500 block of 23rd.Street to determine if they would be <br />adversely affected by the closing of the street until midnight <br />for this event. <br />REQUEST TO CONDUCT 14TH ANNUAL ST. JOSEPH RIVER <br />RUN (MAY 11, 1184) REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Katie Scott, Athletic Annex, 1250 <br />Scottsdale Mall, East Ireland Road, South Bend, Indiana, requested. <br />approval to conduct the 14th Annual St. Joseph River Run scheduled <br />for Saturday, May 19, 1984. The Michiana Watershed and the <br />Athletic Annex are working together to coordinate this event. <br />She advised that the race will start at Leeper Park .at 11:00 a.m. <br />and finish by 5:00 p.m. at Niles and St. Patrick's Park. Upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, <br />the above request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, <br />Police Department Traffic Division and the City Controller's office <br />for review and recommendation. <br />
