REGULAR MEETING APRIL 16, 1984 Petitioner will be requested to man the barricades while the street is closed. Upon a motion made by Mr. Vance, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, the above recommendation was accepted and the request approved.. APPROVAL OF DATE FOR REGIONAL FINALS FOR INTERNATIONAL AMERICAN SOAP BOX DERBY SPONSORED BY THE NEIGHBORHOOD YOUTH INVOLVEMENT COUNCIL Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski has reviewed the request of the Neighborhood Youth Involvement Council submitted to the Board on March 19, 1984 and recommends that the original requested date of July 7, 1984 and additionally the date of July 8, 1984 be approved for the Soap Box Derby. The additional date is a contingency date based upon expected response to the Soap Box Derby. Mr. Wadzinski further advised that no route is being submitted for approval at: this time. He stated that approximately twelve (12) locations in the South Bend area have been presented to the organization for their review. Selection of a final site will be predicated upon the number of entries which will dictate the required viewing and parking areas. Site locations will be forwarded at a later date by the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting. Upon a motion made by Mr.. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the above dates of July 7 and July 8, 1984 were reserved for the Neighborhood Youth Involvement Council Soap Box Derby with the route to be submitted and approved at a later date. APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS - RECONDITIONING OF ONE (1) 1971 WARD LA FRANCE PUMPER APPARATUS (FIRE DEPARTMENT) In a letter to the Board, Fire Chief Timothy J. Brassell, requested that the Board advertise for the receipt of bids for the recondition- ing of one (1) 1971 Ward LaFrance pumper apparatus. He advised that this will consist of refurbishing the cab, installing a new body and water tank and a complete paint job. It is expected that this re- furbishing will cost approximately $25,000.00. Upon a motion made by Mr. Vance, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, the above request was approved. REQUEST TO HAVE 500 BLOCK OF .23RD STREET CLOSED FOR WEDDING RECEPTION (MAY 1)1984) REFERRED In a letter to the Board, Ms. Wendy L. Bowers, and Mr. Paul R. Vanderhegghen, 521 South 23rd Street, South Bend, Indiana, indicated that they will be married on May 1, 1984 and would like to have a block party for the reception. They indicated that they would like to have part of the street blocked off from 511 South 23rd Street to 530 South 23rd Street from 3:00 p.m. until midnight. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, this request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department Traffic Division .for review and recom- mendation. Further, the Clerk was instructed to contact Ms. Bowers and Mr. Vanderhegghen to request that they contact the residents of the 500 block of 23rd.Street to determine if they would be adversely affected by the closing of the street until midnight for this event. REQUEST TO CONDUCT 14TH ANNUAL ST. JOSEPH RIVER RUN (MAY 11, 1184) REFERRED In a letter to the Board, Ms. Katie Scott, Athletic Annex, 1250 Scottsdale Mall, East Ireland Road, South Bend, Indiana, requested. approval to conduct the 14th Annual St. Joseph River Run scheduled for Saturday, May 19, 1984. The Michiana Watershed and the Athletic Annex are working together to coordinate this event. She advised that the race will start at Leeper Park .at 11:00 a.m. and finish by 5:00 p.m. at Niles and St. Patrick's Park. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the above request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, Police Department Traffic Division and the City Controller's office for review and recommendation.
