<br />FILING OF ENVIRONMENTAL CLEAN-UP OF LOTS
<br />A report from the Department of Code Enforcement indicating a
<br />total of four (4) properties cleaned from January 5, 1984 to
<br />January 6, 1984 was submitted. Upon a motion made by Mr.
<br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the report
<br />was filed.
<br />REQUEST OF METAL RESOURCES CORPORATION TO LOCATE
<br />TEMPORARY MOBILE OFFICE REFERRED
<br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Daniel M. Rifkin, President,
<br />Metal Resources -Corporation, P.O. Box 2856, South Bend,
<br />Indiana, asked that the Board consider his request to grant
<br />any and all permits necessary to locate a temporary mobile
<br />office at 1147 Prairie Avenue. The letter indicated that
<br />the mobile office will serve as a temporary weigh station
<br />and operations office during the development and construction
<br />of the new processing facility. Upon a motion made by Mr.
<br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above
<br />request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting
<br />and the Department of Code Enforcement for review and
<br />recommendation.
<br />PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR
<br />PRESENTATION OF PETITION TO CHANGE MICHIGAN, MAIN,
<br />LAFAYETTE, WASHINGTON, WAYNE, JEFFERSON AND ST.
<br />JOSEPH STREETS TO TWO-WAY STREETS - MR. RALPH JOHNSON
<br />Mr. Ralph E. Johnson, 734 North Cushing Street, South Bend,
<br />addressed the Board and presented a Petition signed by
<br />business and professional people indicating their desire to
<br />have Michigan, Main, Lafayette, Washington, Wayne, Jefferson
<br />and St. Joseph Streets opened to two-way traffic. The Petition
<br />indicated that two-way traffic is requested to allow enough
<br />traffic to support retail merchants to stay in business where
<br />they are, to make downtown a safe and sane place to drive a
<br />car or shop because our bypass routes can now handle the
<br />truck traffic making one-way destruction of our downtown
<br />business district unnecessary. The Petition further indicated
<br />that two-way traffic would make it possible for passengers to
