<br />REQUEST OF SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE TO CONDUCT MARATHON
<br />AND 7-MILE RACE REFERRED
<br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. John J. McGann, Editor and
<br />Publisher of the South Bend Tribune, 223 West Colfax Avenue,
<br />South Bend, Indiana, requested permission to sponsor a marathon
<br />and a seven -mile race. He indicated that all proceeds from
<br />these runs would be for the benefit of the American Lung Association.
<br />He further indicated that the University of Notre Dame has granted
<br />permission for both races to start on the Notre Dame campus, and
<br />finish in the football stadium. Part of the route would be run
<br />on the abandoned railway and in fact using the old railroad
<br />trestle to cross U.S. 31. The downtown portion of the course
<br />would run along the East Race, allowing runners to run under the
<br />bridges. It was noted that Mr. McGann submitted maps outlining
<br />the above routes with the letter. The marathon will have a starting
<br />time of 6:00 a.m. and the seven -mile run would begin exactly one
<br />hour later at 7:00 a.m. The bulk of the runners would be finished
<br />by 9:00 a.m. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by
<br />Mr. Hill and carried, the above request was referred to the
<br />Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department Traffic
<br />Division for review and recommendation.
<br />APPROVE LICENSE APPLICATIONS - RUBBISH AND GARBAGE
<br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the following two (2) Rubbish and
<br />Garbage license applications have been received:

<br />It was noted that inspections of the trucks to be used had been
<br />conducted by the Solid Waste Bureau and both applicants were
<br />found to be in compliance. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski,
<br />seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the above license applications
<br />were approved and referred to the Deputy Controller's office for
<br />issuance.
<br />APPROVE HANDICAPPED PARKING PERMITS
<br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and
<br />carried, the following forty-four (44) handicapped parking permit
<br />applications were approved and referred to the Deputy Controller's
<br />office for issuance of permits:
