38 <br />REGULAR MEETING DECEMBER 12, 1983 <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS TO CONDUCT <br />"MARCH FOR LIFE" (JANUARY 22, 1983) <br />Mr.. Leszczynski advised that Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager, <br />Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, has reviewed the request of <br />Knights of Columbus presented.to the Board on December 5, <br />1983 and recommends approval. Mr. Wadzinski stated that it <br />is the Police Department's di..scretion.(depending,on size of <br />group) whether to ,use the sidewalks or curb lane of the street <br />for the march. Upon a motion;made.by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded <br />by Mr. Kernan and carried, the above recommendation was accepted <br />and the request approved subject to the filing of a Certificate <br />of Insurance in the amount of $1,000,000.00 naming the City of <br />South Bend as an additional insured for this event. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO CONDUCT DOWNTOWN HOLIDAY PROMOTIONS <br />In a memorandum to the Board, Ms.Mikki Dobski, City Events <br />Coordinator, on behalf of the Downtown Merchants Association <br />requested permission for the following Holiday events to take <br />place between December 15th and 24th, 1983 <br />1. Strolling, carollers - no set day or time. <br />2. Illuminata - Thursday, December 15-17, 1983. <br />.Each participating store will set out bags <br />with candles alon.-_ the sidewalk. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and <br />carried, the above events were approved subject to the merchants <br />participating in the Illuminata executing an Indemnification <br />Agreement holding the City harmless from any liability resulting <br />from this event. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS - <br />SALE OF ABANDONED VEHICLES <br />Ms. Katherine Barnard,.Director of the Department of Code Enforce- <br />ment, requested permission to advertise for the sale of approximately <br />twenty (20) abandoned vehicles, thirteen (13) of which are valued <br />at over One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) and all of which are being <br />stored at Hurwich Impoundment Lot, 1610 Circle Avenue. It was <br />noted that all vehicles have been stored more than the thirty <br />(30) days, identification checks had been run for auto theft and <br />the owners and lienholders notified. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the request was <br />approved and.a date of December 27, 1983, was established for <br />the receiving of sealed bids. <br />APPROVE INTENDED USE HEARING OF REVENUE SHARING FUNDS - VEHICLE <br />FOR DEPARTMENT OF CODE ENFORCEMENT CLEAN-UP CREW M3.000.0M <br />In a memorandum to the Board, Ms. Katherine Barnard, Director, <br />Department of Code Enforcement, indicated that because of the <br />poor condition to one of the two trucks used by the Code Enforce- <br />ment clean-up crew it is necessary to replace one of the two <br />trucks. She further statedth.at $15,000.00 has been appropriated <br />in Community Development Funds for the purchase of a truck and <br />an additional $13,000.00 is needed from Federal Revenue Sharing. <br />She further requested that a public hearing on this proposed <br />expenditure of revenue sharing funds be scheduled. Upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, <br />the request was approved and a date of December 27, 1983, was <br />set for the public hearing on the intended use of revenue <br />sharing funds. <br />1 <br />1 <br />
