REGULAR MEETING <br />SEPTEMBER 23, 1985 <br />on the sidewalk. He further stated that he has discussed this <br />matter with Mr. Bill Hardy of the Neighborhood Housing Services <br />and Art Quigley, President of the Northeast Neighborhood Society <br />and they are in favor of the project. Submitted with the request <br />was a plot plan of the intersection to further explain the <br />proposed locations. <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that this request has been reviewed by <br />the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, Police Department Traffic <br />Division and Building Department and they recommend approval <br />subject to the the planters being maintained and the submission <br />of a perpetual $1,000,000.00 Certificate of Insurance naming the <br />City of South Bend as an additional insured. It was noted that <br />the insurance is required when permission is granted for <br />encroachment in the public right-of-way. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. Barnard <br />and carried, the recommendation was accepted and the request <br />approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ERECT ENTRANCE CANOPY - REHABILITATION <br />DIVISION SERVICE FOR THE BLIND - 221 WEST WAYNE STREET <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Robert L. Hinsch, Sales Manager, <br />City Awning of South Bend, 1835 South Franklin, South Bend, <br />Indiana, requested permission to erect an entrance canopy across <br />the public sidewalk at 221 West Wayne Street. Measurements of <br />the canopy are as follows: <br />1. Front edge of canopy will be one (1) foot from <br />edge of existing curb. <br />2. Front legs will be three (3) feet from curb edge. <br />3. Front and sides of 1" tubular steel frame will be <br />nine feet four inches (91411) from sidewalk. <br />4. Bottom of cloth valance will be eight (8) feet from <br />sidewalk. <br />Submitted along with the request was a diagram of the canopy to <br />be erected. <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, <br />Police Department Traffic Division and Building Department have <br />reviewed this request and recommend approval subject to all <br />Uniform Building Code requirements being met as well as the <br />submission to the Board of a $1,000,000.00 perpetual Certificate <br />of Insurance naming the City of South Bend as an additional <br />insured as required when permission is granted for encroachment <br />in the public right-of-way. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. Barnard <br />and carried, the recommendation was accepted and the request <br />approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS FREEZE CAMPAIGN TO CONDUCT <br />WALK-.00TOBER 5, 1985 <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Roger Voelker, St. Joseph County <br />Nuclear Weapons Freeze Campaign, 10814 Dunn Road, Osceola, <br />Indiana, requested permission to hold a Freeze Walk on Saturday, <br />October 5, 1985, to raise money to support their efforts to end <br />the arms race. The walk will begin at Howard Park at 2:00 p.m. <br />and proceed west on Jefferson to Main Street, north on Main to <br />L.W.W. to Lafayette, north on Lafayette to Riverside, Riverside <br />to Angela, east on Angela to Eddy and then south on Eddy back to <br />Howard Park. Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Bureau of Traffic <br />and Lighting and the Police Department Traffic Division have <br />1 <br />
