61 9 c) <br />C) ,�L o <br />REGULAR MEETING SEPTEMBER 23, 1985 <br />REQUEST TO PURCHASE CITY -OWNED PROPERTY AT 1032 DE MAUDE AVENUE <br />REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Charles S. Leone, 1081 Woodward, <br />South Bend, Indiana, indicated that he was interested in <br />purchasing the City -owned property at,1032- DeMaude Avenue, South <br />Bend, Indiana. Mr. Leone advised that he and his wife own the <br />property immediately to the west at 1028 DeMaude Avenue. Upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, se.conded.by Mr. Vance and <br />carried, the above ..request was referred-to.the necessary City <br />departments..and bureaus for a determination as to whether or not <br />the City need retain the lot for any reason. <br />UEST OF BLAKE DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION TO ERECT TEMPORARY SALE <br />SIGN ON PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY (AUCTION OF TOPSFIELD CONDOMINIUMS) <br />REFERRED <br />In a letter -,to the Board, Mr. Joseph T. Helling, Attorney at -Law, <br />224 West Jefferson Boulevard, Suite 600, South Bend, Indiana, on <br />behalf of his client, Blake Development Corporation, requested <br />permission to erect a temporary sale sign within the public <br />right-of-way lines on the east side of Ironwood Drive, south of <br />the Topsfield entrance, to be removed following an auction,.sale <br />on October 7, 1985. Mr. Helling advised that his client has <br />arranged to sell the remaining condominium units which it owns at <br />Topsfield at an auction sale to be conducted on October 7, 1985. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance.and <br />carried,; -the request as submitted was referred to the Bureau of <br />Traffic and Lighting, Police Department Traffic Division, <br />Department of Code Enforcement and the Building Department for <br />review and recommendation. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF JOBS FOR THE HANDICAPPED, INC. FOR HANDICAP <br />PARKING SPACE AT 322 W. WASHINGTON STREET <br />Ms. Virginia R. Goodwin, Manager, Jobs For Handicapped, Inc., <br />Wright and Noel Building,-322 W. Washington Street, South Bend, <br />Indiana, advised that the company employes handicapped <br />individuals who, because of lack of parking spaces in the <br />vicinity of the Wright and Noel Building, must park three (3) <br />blocks away. As some of these individuals have difficulty <br />walking and.cannot park close to the building they have quit <br />their jobs. Therefore, she is requesting a couple handicapped <br />parking places for her employees. Mr. Leszczynski advised that <br />the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department <br />Traffic Division have reviewed this request and recommend the <br />installation of one (1) one -hour handicapped parking space at the <br />location requested. It was noted that the City cannot provide <br />all -day parking on the public street. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. Barnard and carried, the <br />recommendation as submitted was accepted and approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO INSTALL PLANTERS ON PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY AT <br />1011 AND 1015 EAST CORBY <br />Mr. Philip M. Slatt, 1011/1015 East Corby, South Bend, Indiana, <br />advised that he is the owner of the above referred to property <br />which currently houses The Corby Fabric Care Center (a <br />laundromat) and Approved Safety and Security, Inc. He further <br />advised that he recently received new curbs and sidewalks through <br />the City's program of rehabilitating South Bend Avenue and Corby <br />Boulevard. To keep the momentum of the project going, he is <br />requesting permission to install sidewalk planters in the middle <br />of the sidewalk to add a decorative touch to the environment. <br />The sidewalk is currently 17' 9" wide, which would leave ample <br />room for three (3) 41x 8' planters. The planters would be <br />constructed of wolmanized 4 x 4's and contain shrubs and <br />perennial flowers. They would rest on top of the sidewalk so <br />that no damage wouldbe caused. In addition to the aesthetics, <br />it will keep people from the now common practice of driving cars <br />
