REGULAR MEETING <br />SEPTEMBER 23, 1985 <br />of Williams Contracting, 1240 North Kaley Street, South Bend, <br />Indiana, in the amount of $17,829.25. It was noted that bids for <br />this project were opened by the Board on September 9, 1985. Mr. <br />Leszczynski further advised that in accordance with the award of <br />this bid,,a Contract in said amount was being submitted for Board <br />approval. Upon a motion made by Mr. Vance, seconded by Ms. <br />Barnard and carried, the above bid was awarded and the Contract <br />approved. It was noted that in lieu of the filing of a <br />one -hundred percent (100%) Labor and Materials Payment Bond and <br />Performance Bond, Williams Contracting submitted a Treasurer's <br />Check in the full Contract amount. <br />REQUEST OF SOUTH BEND PUBLIC LIBRARY TO PLACE APPROXIMATELY <br />FORTY-TWO (42) DIRECTIONAL SIGNS IN THE PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY <br />REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Donald J. Napoli, Director, South Bend <br />Public Library, 122 West Wayne Street, South Bend, Indiana, <br />requested permission to locate approximately forty-two (42) <br />directional signs in the public right-of-way along major traffic <br />arteries to aid in directing people to the six (6) public <br />libraries located throughout the community. Additionally, Mr. <br />Napoli requested the assistance of the City in erecting the <br />signage as they have no means for permanent sign installation. <br />Submitted along with the request were suggestions for the <br />dimensions and color of the signs as well as maps designating <br />preferred locations near the library buildings where the signs <br />are to be installed. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, <br />seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the request was referred to <br />the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department <br />Traffic Division for review and recommendation. <br />REQUEST OF ST. JOE VALLEY NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR WOMEN TO <br />CONDUCT DEMONSTRATION ON PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY - OCTOBER 6, 1985 <br />REFERRED <br />Ms. Lisa Cunningham, Executive Secretary, St. Joe Valley Chapter, <br />National Organization for Women, P.O. Box 1571, South Bend, <br />Indiana, advised that the organization is planning a <br />demonstration as part of the "Campaign to Save Women's Lives" on <br />Sunday, October 6, 1985, at 1:00 p.m. in front of the Federal <br />Courthouse. The demonstration will be peaceful, with approx- <br />imately fifty (50) participants carrying pro -choice picket <br />signs. The demonstration will be for approximately three (3) <br />hours. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. <br />Vance and carried, the request was referred to the Bureau of <br />Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department Traffic Division <br />for review and recommendation. <br />REQUEST OF SOUTH BEND COALITION AGAINST APARTHEID TO CONDUCT <br />MARCH AND RALLY - OCTOBER 12, 1985 REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Katherine Taylor, South Bend <br />Coalition Against Apartheid, 248 Murray Street, South Bend, <br />Indiana, advised that the coalition is planning a march and rally - <br />on October 12, 1985 from 12:00-3:00 p.m. The focus of the rally <br />will be on political prisoners being unjustly detained and <br />imprisoned in South Africa. The exact route of the march will be <br />submitted to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting by September 26, <br />1985 but will include a short loop through the downtown area. It <br />is requested that the rally be held on the stage area on River <br />Bend Plaza. It was noted that approximately 50-100 individuals <br />are expected to participate. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the request as <br />submitted was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and <br />the Police Department Traffic Division for review and <br />recommendation. <br />
