REGULAR MEETING JULY 15, 1985 6-�,P' ,400 1 REQUEST TO PURCHASE CITY -OWNED PROPERTY AT 709 EAST OHIO STREET REFERRED In a letter to the Board, Mr. D.K. Jones, 715 East Ohio Street, South Bend, Indiana, indicated that he was interested in purchasing the City -owned property at 709 East Ohio Street, South Bend, Indiana. Mr. Jones advised that he is the owner of property at 715 and 725 East Ohio Street and has been cutting the grass and maintaining the property at 709 East Ohio Street for years. Upon a motion made by Mr. Vance, seconded by Ms. Barnard and.carried, the above request was referred to the necessary City departments and bureaus for a determination as to whether or not the City need retain the lot for any reason. REQUEST OF PRO HEALTH OF SAINT JOSEPH'S MEDICAL CENTER TO CONDUCT 5TH ANNUAL SPORTSMED 10K WEEKEND REFERRED - (OCTOBER 6, 1985) Mr. Vance advised that Mr. Ron Craker and Mr. Carter Wolf, Co -Race Directors and Mr. Mark Neff, Director, have submitted on behalf of Pro Health of Saint Joseph's Medical Center, 320 South St. Joseph Street, South Bend, Indiana, a request to hold the 5th Annual Sportsmed 10K Weekend on Sunday, October 6,- 19,85. Both the 10K and two (2) mile runs are scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. and 2:05 p.m. respectively. The race course which has been approved the past two (2) years is again the course requested and is as follows: Jefferson to Notre Dame Notre Dame to Northside Boulevard Northside to Pleasant Pleasant to 26th Street 26th Street to Northside Northside to 35th Street 35th Street to Pleasant Pleasant to Northside Northside to St.Louis Finish line is on St.Louis, in front of Howard Park Ice Rink. Upon a motion made by Mr. Vance, seconded by Ms. Barnard and. carried, the request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department Traffic Division for review and recommendation. REQUEST OF WOMEN'S INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE FOR PEACE AND FREEDOM TO CONDUCT "INTERNATIONAL SHADOW PROJECT 1985" REFERRED (AUGUST 6, 1985) In a letter to the Board, Ms. Kathleen Maas Weigert, Shadow Project Committee, WILPF, 17300 Weatherstone Court, Granger, Indiana, on behalf of the local chapter of WILPF, requested permission to participate in the "International Shadow Project 1985" (ISP) on August 6, 1985. The ISP commemorates the 40th anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in that participants will draw life-size images similar to the human shadows imprinted by the intense heat of the atomic bombs which vaporized all those who were within 300 meters of ground zero, leaving behind only their shadows on the buildings and roads. The primary purpose of the ISP is to create a solemn memorial to the victims of the atomic bombs. They would like South Bend to participate by placing approximately one -hundred (100) shadows on the River Bend Plaza (the regular sidewalks, not on tiles or bricks) and on sidewalks in the downtown area and on any other locations which the Board thinks appropriate. The actual shadows are created with a non -permanent, white substance, and will be placed during the early morning hours on August 6th. Accompanying the shadows will be a poster explaining their meaning and the purpose of the ISP. Upon a motion made by Mr. Vance, seconded by Ms. Barnard and carried, the request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, Police Department Traffic Division and the Office of Community Affairs for review and recommendation.
