155 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />APRIL 29, 1985 <br />emergency lane to be determined by the police officer in charge on <br />Tuesday, April 30, 1985. They are requesting this because Bishop <br />John D'Arcy will present his credentials at the Cathedral in a <br />ceremony that will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on that <br />date. Mr. Leszczynski advised that favorable recommendations have <br />been submitted by the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the <br />Police Department Traffic Division. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. Barnard and carried, the above <br />request was approved. <br />REQUEST OF THE AMERICAN LEGION TO CONDUCT POPPY DAY SALES (MAY 17 <br />& 18, 1985) REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Jean Bowersox, Poppy Chairman of the <br />American Legion, Pulaski Post Unit #357, 2021 South Warren, South <br />Bend, Indiana, requested permission to hold their Annual Poppy Day <br />Sales on the sidewalks throughout the City of South Bend on Friday <br />and Saturday, May 17 & 18, 1985. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the above request <br />was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police <br />Department Traffic Division for review and recommendation. <br />REQUEST TO PURCHASE CITY -OWNED PROPERTY AT 1022 NAPIER STREET AND <br />840 SOUTH KENTUCKY STREET <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Carter Buchanan, 121 North <br />Wellington, South Bend, Indiana, indicated that he was interested <br />in purchasing the City -owned property at 1022 Napier Street, South <br />Bend, Indiana. The Board also received a request from Beverly J. <br />Williams, 608 S. Summit, Apt. 6, South Bend, Indiana, indicating <br />that she was interested in purchasing the City -owned property at <br />840 South Kentucky Street. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, <br />seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the above requests were <br />referred to the necessary City departments and bureaus for a <br />determination as to whether or not the City need retain the lots <br />for any reason. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF PROPOSALS - COMPUTER <br />HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE FOR CITY'S FINANCIAL NEEDS <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Michael L. Vance, City Controller, <br />requested permission to advertise for receipt of proposals for <br />Computer Hardware and Software related to an automated financial <br />accounting system for the City of South Bend. Mr. Vance was <br />present and indicated that Crowe Chizek and Company has prepared <br />specifications and bid documents for what is needed. The City <br />will use the computer for personnel, payroll, accounting and <br />licensing records which will be necessary due to the South Bend <br />School Corporation's request to sever our relationship for data <br />processing services around January 1, 1986. In light of this the <br />decision has been made to provide those services internally using <br />an in-house computer and appropriate software and can be handled <br />with no additional personnel. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. Barnard and carried, the above <br />request was approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS - VARIOUS <br />CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Neil A. Shanahan, Manager, Bureau of <br />Public Construction, requested permission to advertise for the <br />receipt of bids for the following construction projects: <br />1. Inlet Reconstruction 1985 <br />2. Concrete Pavement Improvements 1985 <br />3. Chapin St. Curb and Walk Improvements Phase II <br />4. Sample St. Traffic Islands Removal <br />5. Jefferson and Eddy Realignment <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. Barnard and <br />carried, the above request was approved. <br />
