<br />followed by other activities in Howard Park. Perhaps 300-400
<br />people will be walking to the Park in procession from the Century
<br />Center at approximately 3:45 - 4:00 p.m. The URC is thereby
<br />requesting permission to hold this procession to the Park and to
<br />receive police or civil defense assistance in traffic control
<br />during the movement. Mr. Fisko further advised that the
<br />celebration will take place in Howard Park and consist of singing,
<br />juggling, dance, kite -making, skits and the like. Upon a motion
<br />made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. Barnard and carried, the
<br />above request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting,
<br />Police Department Traffic Division and the Park Department for
<br />review and recommendation.
<br />REQUEST OF MATHEWS-PURUCKER-ANELLA, INC. TO ERECT COVERED
<br />PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY AT S.E. CORNER OF MAIN AND W. WASHINGTON STREET
<br />REFERRED
<br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Stephen J. Eddy, Mathews-Purucker-
<br />Anella, Inc., 218 South Frances Street, South Bend, Indiana,
<br />advised that the firm is presently involved in the planning of a
<br />six -story office building for Teachers Credit Union to be located
<br />on the southeast corner of Main Street and West Washington
<br />Street. Construction is to commence by May of 1985.
<br />During construction, it will be necessary to build a covered
<br />pedestrian walkway on West Washington and Main Street with the
<br />walkway to be located in the parking lanes occupying approximately
<br />7'0" of pavement measured from the curb line and he is hereby
<br />requesting permission to erect said walkway. Attached to the
<br />request was a site plan of the area showing intended use of the
<br />site and location of barricades and walkways. Upon a motion made
<br />by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the above
<br />request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, Police
<br />Department Traffic Division, Building Department and Fire
<br />Department for review and recommendation.
<br />APPROVE REQUEST OF WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION OF THE SOUTH BEND SYMPHONY
<br />FOR TRAFFIC ASSISTANCE - APRIL 25, 1985
<br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr. Joseph J. Pluta, Director,
<br />Division of Engineering and Captain Edward I. Friend, Police
<br />Department Traffic Division have reviewed the request of the
<br />Women's Association of the South Bend Symphony for traffic control
<br />assistance at the Morris Civic Auditorium on April 25, 1985, for a
<br />childrens concert, said request submitted to the Board on January
<br />22, 1985, and recommend approval. Upon a motion made by Mr.
<br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the above
<br />recommendation was accepted and the request approved.
<br />APPROVE REQUEST OF ST. PATRICK'S CHURCH AND ST. JAMES CATHEDRAL
<br />FOR TRAFFIC ASSISTANCE - MARCH 31, 1985
<br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Board has received a request from
<br />Rev. Wilfrid Menard, C.S.C., Pastor, Saint Patrick's Parish, 309
<br />South Taylor Street, South Bend, Indiana, advising that St.
<br />Patrick's Parish in conjunction with the Cathedral of St. James
<br />(located at 117 North Lafayette Boulevard), will hold a palm
<br />procession on March 31, 1985, commencing at 10:00 a.m. in the
<br />Tippecanoe Place parking lot, 620 W. Washington Avenue, leaving
<br />there at 10:15 a.m. to proceed to their respective churches, St.
<br />Patrick's utilizing Washington Street to Taylor Street and St.
<br />James utilizing Washington and William Streets. They are
<br />requesting police assistance in crossing Washington Street for the
<br />St. Patrick's group and assistance for the St. James group in
<br />crossing Williams Street. Approximately 50-100 individuals will
<br />participate in this event. Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr.
<br />Joseph J. Pluta, Director, Division of Engineering and Captain
<br />Edward I. Friend, Police Department Traffic Division have reviewed
<br />this request and recommend approval. However, it was noted that
