<br />connection for services, such as electric, must meet all code
<br />requirements; only inert and non-flamable materials shall be
<br />stored in the trailer; the trailer be allowed for a maximum of one
<br />(1) year with an option to extend for an additional six (6) months
<br />after inspection; that the trailer is not to be located on
<br />existing parking spaces; that at least one (1) fire extinguisher
<br />be permanently placed in the trailer; that the trailer does not
<br />interfere with parking or loading areas or the ingress or egress;
<br />that the trailer be placed on a level pad on a graded area; that
<br />the front of the trailer not extend beyond the front of the
<br />primary building and that a temporary Building Permit be secured
<br />from the Building Department. Upon a motion made by Mr.
<br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the above
<br />recommendations were accepted and the request approved.
<br />REQUEST OF PEPSI BOTTLING COMPANY TO CONDUCT "DIET PEPSI 10,000
<br />METER RUNNING SERIES AND FUN RUN - APRIL 6, 1985 - REFERRED
<br />In a letter to the Board, Daniel L. Blacketor of J. Charles Nyers,
<br />Inc., Marketing/Advertising, Suite 801, St. Joseph Bank Building,
<br />South Bend, Indiana, on behalf of Pepsi Bottling Company of South
<br />Bend, requested permission to conduct two (2) running events, the
<br />Diet Pepsi 10,000 Meter Running Series (6.2 Miles) and the Diet
<br />Pepsi Fun Run (approximately one (1) mile) to be held on Saturday,
<br />April 6, 1985 beginning at 10:00 a.m. The race called the "Diet
<br />Pepsi 10,000 Meter Running Series" is scheduled in conjunction
<br />with other similar running events across the country. Nyers, Inc.
<br />has been contracted by Pepsi Bottling Company to help organize,
<br />develop, promote and direct this running event. The race is
<br />scheduled to be part of a national promotional program for
<br />Pepsi -Cola USA and its Diet Pepsi 10,000 Meter National
<br />Championships.
<br />The route requested for the Diet Pepsi 10,000 Meter Running Series
<br />will be from Leeper Park to Pinhook Park. Runners will leave
<br />Leeper Park on Riverside Drive, turn right on Leland Avenue, left
<br />on Riverside Drive, cross Angela Boulevard, continue on Riverside
<br />to Pinhook Park. Prior to Boland Drive the runners would make a
<br />U-turn and return along the same route finishing by turning right
<br />onto Lafayette Boulevard and finishing at Park Lane.
<br />In the Diet Pepsi Fun Run it is suggested that the runners follow
<br />the same course as the 10,000 meter run. These runners would turn
<br />left on Hudson Avenue and then left on Woodward Avenue, following
<br />Woodward to California, left on California to Riverside, right on
<br />Riverside to Lafayette, right on Lafayette to finish area.
<br />It is anticipated that approximately 1,000 runners will be
<br />involved in the 10,000 Meter Running Series and 200 runners in the
<br />Fun Run.
<br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and
<br />carried, this request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and
<br />Lighting and the Police Department Traffic Division for review and
<br />recommendation and to the Park Department for consideration by the
<br />Board of Park Commissioners as the use of public parks is
<br />additionally requested.
<br />REQUEST OF WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION OF THE SOUTH BEND SYMPHONY FOR
<br />TRAFFIC CONTROL ASSISTANCE - APRIL 25, 1985 REFERRED
<br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Sue Shirrell, 1222 Garway Common,
<br />South Bend, Indiana, advised that each year the Women's
<br />Association of the South Bend Symphony presents a free concert to
<br />the fourth grade students of the South Bend and surrounding area
<br />schools. The concert this year will be held on Thursday, April
<br />25, 1985, at the Morris Civic Auditorium. She advised that there
<br />will be two (2) concerts, back-to-back, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
