REGULAR MEETING MAY 27. 1986
APPROVE REQUEST OF ST. STANTSLAUS CHURCH TO CLOSE STREETS FOR
PROCESSION - JUNE 1, 1986
Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting
and the Police Department Traffic Division have reviewed the
above referred to request which was submitted to the Board on May
20, 1986, and recommend approval. Upon a motion made by Ms.
Barnard, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, the
recommendation was accepted and the request approved.
APPROVE REQUEST TO CLOSE STREETS _IN CONJUNCTION WITH HILLTOP
SUNRI_SE SERVICE - JUNE 15, 1986
In a letter to the Board, Rev. L. James Perry, General Chairman,
advised that each year at 6:00 a.m. on the third Sunday in June,
the Hilltop Sunrise Service has been held on the hill in LaSalle
Park. As in prior years, Rev. Perry requested that Washington
Street, between Liberty and Dundee Streets be closed during the
hours of 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. on June 15, 1986.
Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting
and the Police Department Traffic Division have reviewed this
request and recommend approval. Therefore, upon a motion made by
Ms. Barnard, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, the
recommendation was accepted and the request approved.
boara Attorney Thomas Bodnar advised members of the Board that in
accordance with the conditions set forth in the Agreement for
Sale and Purchase of Real Property conveying the property known
as the Colfax Cultural Center to Southold Heritage Foundation,
d/b/a South Bend Heritage Foundation, approved and executed by
the Board on May 20, 1986, the appropriate Warranty Deed has been
prepared and is being presented to the Board today for approval
and execution.
Mr. Bodnar explained the City's involvement in the purchase of
the Colfax Cultural Center and in response to a question from
Councilman John Voorde, clarified that the City purchased the
Colfax Cultural Center property for $79,900.00 and by way of the
Agreement for Sale and Purchase of Real Property is selling the
property to Southold Heritage Foundation for the sum of
$34,900.00. Further, in light of the fact that the City of South
Bend is in a better position to request that the accrued taxes on
the property be forgiven, the Board, at its last meeting,
approved and executed a Petition to Release Accrued Tax and
Remove Property from Tax Rolls which was sent to the State Board
of Tax Commissioners. Mr. Bodnar further advised that $100.00 in
earnest money was paid by Southold Heritage for the purchase of
this property, thereby reducing the purchase price of $80,000.00
to $79,900.00.
Upon a motion made by Ms. Barnard, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski
and carried, the above referred to Warranty Deed was approved and
executed.
APPROVE TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES
Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. Barnard
and carried, the following seven (7) traffic control devices were
approved:
1. REMOVAL OF TRUCKS OVER 26,000 G.V.W. PROHIBITED,
REVISED TO NO SEMI'S - Bronson & Marietta, Bronson
& Fellows, Carroll & Monroe, Columbia & Monroe,
South & St. Joseph, Carroll & Bronson. (Monroe
Industrial Park to Prohibit Semi Traffic in
Residential Area).
