REGULAR MEETING <br />MAY 27, 1986 <br />1 <br />that the increased cost was for the removal of additional <br />concrete, debris and an underground tank. Additionally submitted <br />was the Project Completion Affidavit indicating this new final <br />cost. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Ms. <br />Barnard and carried, Change Order No. 1 (Final) and the Project <br />Completion Affidavit were approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF MAHOMET TEMPLE 134 - MAHOMET COURT 93 TO <br />CONDUCT 40TH ANNUAL GALA DAY CELEBRATION PARADE - JUNE 14, 1986 <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Donnie L. Johnson, Parade Chairman, <br />Mahomet Temple 134 - Mahomet Court 93, A.E.A.O.N.M.S., 3834 <br />Butternut Street, Oasis of East Chicago, Desert of. Indiana, <br />46312, advised that the Masonic Shriners and Daughters of Indiana <br />have chosen South Bend, Indiana to hold their 40th Annual Gala <br />Day Celebration, June 12-15, 1986 which will be hosted by Mahomet <br />Temple No. 134 A.E.A.O.N.M.S. Prince Hall Affiliated of East <br />Chicago, Indiana. <br />Mr. Johnson further advised that they are a black organization <br />serving Northwest Indiana. Part of the Gala Day Celebration <br />includes a Gala Day Parade scheduled for Saturday, June 14, 1986 <br />and he is therefore requesting permission to conduct the parade <br />utilizing the following route: <br />Assemble in LaSalle Park, begin north of the park on Linden <br />Avenue, proceed west to Falcon Street, south on Falcon Street <br />to Washington Street, turn left on Washington Street and <br />proceed east to Kaley Street, turn left on Kaley Street to <br />Linden Avenue, turn right on Linden Avenue and proceed across <br />the railroad tracks to Orange Street, proceed east on Orange <br />Street to Walnut Street, turn right on Walnut Street to <br />Washington Street turn left on Washington Street and proceed <br />east on Washington Street and disperse in the Marriott Hotel <br />parking lot. <br />He further advised that the parade will begin promptly at 1:00 <br />p.m. and is anticipated that approximately 200 to 250 individuals <br />will participate in the parade consisting of marching bands, foot <br />patrol units, motor van units, motorcycle units, automobiles, <br />etc. <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that this request has been reviewed by <br />the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department <br />Traffic Division and they recommend that the request be approved <br />subject to the following route being utilized: <br />Orange Street east to Birdsell, Birdsell south to Washington, <br />Washington east to 100 East Washington (Marriott Hotel). The <br />Marshalling area will be Washington from Olive to Orange. <br />Additionally, Birdsell from Orange to Washington and <br />Washington from Studebaker to Elm will be designated as no <br />parking zones. <br />Upon a motion made by Ms. Barnard, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski <br />and carried, the recommendation as submitted with modified route <br />was accepted and the request approved. <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting <br />and Police Department Traffic Division have reviewed the request <br />submitted by the St. Joe Valley Watercolor Society on May 20, <br />1986, to have Riverside Drive adjacent to Leeper Park designated <br />as a one-way street going west and Park Lane changed to a one-way <br />Street going east for the Leeper Park Art Fair and recommend <br />approval. Upon a motion made by Ms. Barnard, seconded by Mr. <br />Leszczynski and carried, the recommendation was accepted and the <br />request approved. <br />
