REGULAR MEETING
MARCH 11, 1986
APPROVE REQUEST OF CITY AWNING OF SOUTH BEND TO ERECT ENTRANCE
CANOPY AT 901 SOUTH MAIN STREET
Mr. Vance advised that pursuant to the above referred to request,
submitted to the Board on February 25, 1986, the Bureau of
Traffic and Lighting, Police Department Traffic Division and the
Building Department have reviewed the request and recommend
approval. Mr. Jack Mathews, Building Commissioner, in his
recommendation, pointed out that the original request stated that
the front of the canopy will be twenty-three (23) feet from the
curb edge. In his review, however, it was determined that the
approximate distance between the front building line and the curb
is fifteen (15) feet. With a six (6) foot canopy this only
leaves approximately nine (9) feet to the curb line and not
twenty-three (23) feet as originally indicated. He further
stated that the clear height under the canopy meets codes and as
long as the canopy is a minimum of three (3) feet from the curb
line, codes are met. Therefore, upon a motion made by Ms.
Barnard, seconded by Mr. Vance and carried, the request to erect
an entrance canopy was approved.
APPROVE VFW SOUTH BEND POST 1167 ANNUAL POPPY DAY SALE - MAY
In a letter to the Board, Mr. Howard Leets, Poppy Chairman,
Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S., South Bend Post No. 1167,
1047 Lincolnway East, South Bend, Indiana, requested permission
to conduct their annual Poppy Day Sale on the sidewalks
throughout the City on Friday and Saturday, May 16-17, 1986.
They stated that the purpose of the sale is for securing funds
for welfare and relief work among widows and orphans of Veterans.
Further, all workers will be volunteers with sales conducted by
means of canister sale of poppies. Mr. Vance advised that the
Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department Traffic
Division have reviewed this request and recommend approval.
Therefore, upon a motion made by Ms. Barnard, seconded by Mr.
Vance and carried, the recommendation was accepted and the
request approved.
the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department
