REGULAR MEETING
FEBRUARY 11, 1986
1
regarding this type of transmission. The inquiry revealed that
if there were problems, repairs could cost as much as $800.00.
In light of this information, it was felt that it was in the best
interest of the Department to stay away from the overdrive
transmissions at this time.
Mr. Voorde reiterated that his concerns regarding this matter
have been satisfied and asked that the department continue to
monitor the performance of overdrive transmissions. He added
that the City of Mishawaka has just purchased seven (7) Fords
with this type of transmission and the City could check with them
to see how these vehicles are working. Mr. Voorde further stated
that at the time he began his inquiry regarding this matter, his
concern was that there were thirty-two (32) potential bidders but
only two (2) bids were received by the Board.
Mr. Voorde stated that there was a misunderstanding on his part
when he made his prior comments about the specifications being
revised and the bids readvertised based on his conversations with
the Chief, and he apologized to the Board. It was further noted
that the Board readvertised for the detective bureau fleet as no
valid bids were received for these vehicles.
There being no further discussion regarding this matter, Mr.
Leszczynski advised that Chief Hurley is recommending that the
bid submitted by University Chrysler -Plymouth, Inc., 222 North
Lafayette Boulevard, South Bend, Indiana, in the amount of
$10,765.00 each for eighteen (18) Plymouth Gran Fury Salon 4-door
sedan automobiles be awarded. Chief Hurley further stated that
these vehicles will be equipped as stated in the bids and the
color will be silver. He also recommended that the Board accept
the rustproofing bid of University Chrysler-Plyouth in the amount
of $119.00 per unit. .
Upon a motion made by Mr. Vance, seconded by Ms. Barnard and
carried, the recommendation was accepted and the bid awarded.
FILING OF STREET LIGHT OUTAGE MONTHLY REPORT - JANUARY
The report submitted to the Board indicated a total of one
hundred twelve (112) street light outages reported during the
month of January.
