REGULAR MEETING JUNE 23, 1987 signalization at this intersection has been changed, there have been an increasing number of accidents. Mr. Leszczynski informed the Board that Councilman -at -Large James V. Barcome, has submitted a letter to the Board adding his support to the efforts of the residents referred to above. Therefore, upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the Petition was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting for review. APPROVE REQUEST TO PROVIDE FLAT RATE PARKING AT MUNICIPA nTTPTNa TUP PTT-MTTr VP4ZTTveT - TTTTv i.-r, 100-7 In a Memorandum to the Board, Ms. Mikki Dobski, Director, Office of Community Affairs, requested permission to provide parking at both municipal garages for a flat rate of $1.00 per day on Saturday and Sunday, July 4-5, 1987 during the Ethnic Festival. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the request as submitted was approved. REQUEST TO CLOSE 1800 BLOCK OF WILBER STREET FOR NEIGHBORHOOD BLOCK PARTY - JULY 4, 1987 - REFERRED In a letter to the Board, Mr. Richard L. Farrell, Jr., 1842 Wilber, South Bend, Indiana, requested permission to close the 1800 block of Wilber Street on July 4, 1987 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. for a neighborhood block party. Upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, the request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department Traffic Division for review and recommendation. REQUEST TO CLOSE ALTGELD STREET BETWEEN LEER AND CLYDE FOR NEIGHBORHOOD BLOCK PARTY - JULY 4, 1987 - REFERRED Ms. Janice McCurdee, 1307 East Altgeld Street, South Bend, Indiana, advised that the residents of the 1300 block of East Altgeld Street would like Altgeld Street, between Leer and Clyde Streets, closed on July 4, 1987 between the hours of 2:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight for a neighborhood block party. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. Declercq and carried, the request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department Traffic Division for review and recommendation. REQUEST OF SPECIAL OLYMPICS TO STAGE FIREWORKS DISPLAY - AUGUST 1, 1987 - REFERRED Ms. Mikki Dobski, Director, Office of Community Affairs, on behalf of ISSOC, requested permission to stage a fireworks display for the entire community on Saturday, August 1, 1987 at 8:45 p.m. along the river, near Seitz Park. Ms. Dobski additionally requested assistance from the Police Department regarding traffic controls and help in determining the appropriate viewing areas for the public. Also, Ms. Dobski advised that Century Center will be utilized to capacity on the evening of the proposed display for other Special Olympics events. She therefore requested that the parking garages and the City lots adjacent to the Center City Associates office be made available at a flat rate of $1.00 for the fireworks display and free for the Special Olympics events. Upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, the above requests were referred to the appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and recommendation.
