REGULAR MEETING <br />JUNE 2, 1987 <br />REQUEST TO CONDUCT ANNUAL MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY BED RACE - JULY 5, <br />1987 - REFERRED <br />Ms. Mikki Dobski, Director, Office of Community Affairs, <br />requested approval to hold the annual Muscular Dystrophy Bed Race <br />on Sunday, July 5, 1987, during the Ethnic Festival. She <br />recommended that the bed race take place on Michigan Street <br />between Washington and Colfax. The South Bend Jaycees will <br />sponsor the event on behalf of the Muscular Dystrophy <br />Association. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by <br />Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the request was referred to the <br />appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and <br />recommendation. <br />OF S <br />OF ANNUAL MEET ON MI <br />STREET <br />TO CONDUCT CONCOURSE PORTION <br />Ms. Mikki Dobski, Director, Office of Community Affairs, advised <br />that the Studebaker Drivers Club is conducting its 24th <br />Studebaker Drivers Club International Meet in South Bend from <br />August 1-8, 1988 and is requesting permission to conduct the <br />"concourse" portion of the Meet on Michigan Street as they did in <br />1983. Upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Mr. <br />Leszczynski and carried, the above request was referred to the <br />necessary City departments and bureaus for review and <br />recommendation. <br />APPROVE REQUEST DESIGNATING WALL STREET AS A ONE-WAY STREET <br />DURING ZOOFEST '87 - JUNE 6-7 1987 <br />Ms. Lorraine Falda, Co -Chairman, Zoofest 187, Potawatomi <br />Zoological Society, Inc., 500 South Greenlawn, P.O. Box 1764, <br />South Bend, Indiana, advised that the Society will sponsor <br />Zoofest on June 6 & 7, 1987. As in previous years, it is <br />requested that Wall Street, between Greenlawn and Ironwood be <br />designated as a one-way street from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. on both <br />days of the Zoofest. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, <br />seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the request was approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS - <br />SUGAR/MAPLE-BENDIX TRAFFIC LIGHT PROJECT <br />In a letter to the Board, Michael P. Meeks, Manager, Bureau of <br />Public Construction, requested that the Board advertise for the <br />receipt of bids for the Sugar/Maple-Bendix Traffic Light Project <br />which entails the signalization of the intersection at Bendix <br />Drive and Sugar/Maple Lane. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the above <br />request was approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS ONE (1) 28,000 <br />G.V.W. RESCUE UNIT - FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />In a letter to the Board, Fire Chief Luther Taylor requested that <br />the Board advertise for the receipt of bids for one (1) 28,000 <br />G.V.W. Rescue Unit for the Fire Department which will replace the <br />present Rescue Unit which is now in service. Chief Taylor <br />advised that the present Rescue Unit is a 1982, 10,500 G.V.W. <br />Chevrolet Step Van with 35,800 miles which is starting to <br />experience major problems. This unit will be offered as a <br />trade-in. Chief Taylor further advised that the price of the new <br />rescue unit is approximately $100,000.00 which will be purchased <br />through EMS Capital Improvement Funds on a Lease Purchase <br />Agreement or purchased wholly depending on the availability of <br />funding. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. <br />DeClercq and carried, the above request was approved. <br />CJ <br />1 <br />C <br />
