Bankhead, Executive <br />Director, International Summer Special Olympics Games, P.O. Box <br />1987, South Bend, Indiana, advised that the City of South Bend is <br />hosting the 1987 International Summer Special Olympics Games, <br />July 31 - August 8, 1987. The number of individuals coming into <br />the community for some of the special events necessitates traffic <br />control by the South Bend Police Department. <br />Mr. Bankhead further advised that on August 1, 1987, there will <br />be a Torch Run through the City to Century Center. Again on <br />August 2, 1987, runners will take the Torch from Century Center <br />to Notre Dame for the Opening Ceremony. Traffic control <br />assistance and a police escort for the individuals running with <br />the torch will be required. <br />The Opening Ceremony is scheduled for the evening of August 2nd <br />and will take place in the Notre Dame football stadium. Traffic <br />Control and patterns needed will be similar to those employed for <br />Notre Dame football games. <br />Other traffic control measures by the City may be necessary <br />throughout the week of the Games. Those requirements will be <br />coordinated with the Director of Security at Notre Dame and the <br />Police Chief of South Bend. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Vance and <br />carried, the request was referred to the necessary City <br />departments and bureaus for review and recommendation. <br />REQUEST OF NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF LETTER CARRIERS TO CONDUCT <br />SIDEWALK SOLICITATIONS JUNE 28, 1987 - REFERRED <br />Ms. Karen 0. Locke, District Director, Muscular Dystrophy <br />Association, Commerce Building, 103 West Wayne Street, Suite 312, <br />South Bend, Indiana, on behalf of the National Association of <br />Letter Carriers Branch #330, requested permission to conduct the <br />annual Muscular Dystrophy Association sidewalk solicitation on <br />Sunday, June 28, 1987 from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. at the <br />following locations: <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />
