REGULAR MEETING <br />MARCH 17, 1987 <br />until 12:30 p.m. or until all items are sold, to dispose of <br />unclaimed bicycles and other unclaimed property. They indicated <br />that a partial list of items to be sold are bicycles, mopeds, <br />tools, lawnmowever, typewriters, fishing gear, clothing, <br />television sets, stereos and miscellaneous goods. Upon a motion <br />made by Mr. Vance, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the <br />request as submitted was approved. <br />UEST OF SISTERS OF ST. JOSEPH OF THE THIRD ORDER OF ST. <br />FRANCIS TO CONDUCT PEACE MARCH - JULY 1, 1987 - REFERRED <br />Mr. Vance advised that the Board is in receipt of a letter from <br />Sister Sandra LoPorto, Social Justice Director, Office for Social <br />Justice, Sisters of St. Joseph, TOSF, 4920 South King Drive, <br />Chicago, Illinois. <br />Sister LoPorto stated that The Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third <br />Order of St. Francis, whose Central Offices are located in the <br />Sherland Building, 105 E. Jefferson, Suite 312, South Bend, <br />Indiana, are requesting that one (1) or two (2) lanes of traffic <br />on the streets mentioned below be closed off to traffic on <br />Wednesday, July 1, 1987 from 12:30 or 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. or <br />3:30 p.m. as a public peace march will take place from St. Mary's <br />College to the Island Park of Century Center. <br />The march will take the following route: <br />Michigan Street from St. Mary's College to St. Joseph <br />Street, St. Joseph Street to the Century Center Island <br />Park entrance at the corner of St. Joseph Street and <br />Colfax Avenue. <br />It is anticipated that approximately one hundred (100) to five <br />hundred (500) individuals will participate in this march. Sister <br />LoPorto stated that they will place their own peacekeepers along <br />the route but would also request that police officers be <br />available. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Vance, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and <br />carried, the above request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic <br />and Lighting, Police Department Traffic Division and City <br />Attorney's office for review and recommendation. <br />REQUEST FOR DESIGNATED HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACE - 715 NORTH ST. <br />LOUIS - REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Viola Petty, 715 North St. Louis <br />Street, South Bend, Indiana, requested on behalf of her mother, <br />that the area in front of their home be designated a handicapped <br />parking space as they have difficulty parking in front of their <br />residence. She stated that her mother has suffered a stroke and <br />is paralyzed on one side and cannot walk very far. Upon a motion <br />made by Mr. Vance, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the <br />above request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting <br />and the Police Department Traffic Division for review and <br />recommendation. <br />APPROVE REQUEST FOR PARTIAL STREET CLOSURE IN CONJUNCTION WITH <br />ESTATE AUCTION - 1500 VIRGINIA STREET - MAY 2 1987 <br />Mr. Vance advised that the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the <br />Police Department Traffic Division have reviewed the above <br />referred to request submitted to the Board on February 24, 1987, <br />and recommend approval. It was noted that the Petitioner will be <br />responsible for the placement and removal of the barricades and <br />that a ten foot (10') clear and unobstructed fire lane must be <br />maintained. Therefore, upon a motion made by Mr. Vance, seconded <br />by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the recommendation was accepted and <br />the request approved. <br />
