REGULAR MEETING <br />JUNE 13, 1988 <br />REQUEST TO CLOSE 600 BLOCK OF E. KEASEY STREET FROM MARIETTA TO <br />RUSH FOR NEIGHBORHOOD COMMITTEE MEETING - JUNE 26, 1988 - <br />REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Herbert Harris, 615 East Keasey <br />Street, South Bend, Indiana, requested that the 600 block of East <br />Keasey Street, from Marietta to Rush, be closed for a <br />Neighborhood Committee Meeting to be held on June 26, 1988 at <br />2:00 p.m. Mr. Harris stated that Councilman William Soderberg, <br />Councilman Loretta Duda, Patricia E. DeClercq, Director, <br />Department of Code Enforcement and James Caldwell, Mayor's <br />Administrative Assistant, will be attending this neighborhood <br />meeting. <br />Mrs. DeClercq informed the Board that the residents of the area <br />bounded by Sample Street, Fellows Street, Broadway and High <br />Street are very concerned about conditions in the area and would <br />like to spruce up the area. The meeting to be held on June 26th <br />is to address a number of concerns which residents have. <br />Councilman William Soderberg advised that many people in this <br />area are proud of what they have done and not proud of what <br />others have done. This meeting will discuss working together to <br />improve the neighborhood <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq <br />and carried, the request to close the 600 block of Keasey Street <br />was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police <br />Department Traffic Division for review and recommendation <br />REQUEST OF NEW HOPE BAPTIST CHURCH FOR THREE (3) DESIGNATED <br />HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACES ON OHIO STREET NEAR THE FRONT ENTRANCE <br />OF THE CHURCH - REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Albert Jacobs, Chairman of Deacons, <br />and Mr. Eldridge Chism, Co -Chairman, New Hope Baptist Church, 313 <br />East Ohio Street, South Bend, Indiana, requested three (3) <br />handicap parking spaces to be reserved on Ohio Street near the <br />front entrance of the church. They requested that one (1) space <br />be installed near the handicap ramp and two (2) spaces east of <br />the front sidewalk. Therefore, upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the request <br />was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Police <br />Department Traffic Division for review and recommendation. <br />APPROVE ETHNIC FESTIVAL RELATED ACTIVITIES: <br />- MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY BED RACE - JULY 3, 1988 <br />- FESTIVAL 5K RUN - JULY 4, 1988 <br />- VIETNAM VETERANS SILENT MARCH - JULY 2, 1988 <br />In a Memorandum to the Board, Ms. Mikki Dobski, Director, Office <br />of Community Affairs, requested permission to hold the following <br />events during the Ethnic Festival: <br />1. Muscular Dystrophy Bed Race - Sunday, July 3, 1988 <br />1:00 p.m. - Michigan Street between Washington and <br />Colfax. <br />2. Festival 5K Run - Monday, July 4, 1988 <br />8:00 a.m. - same route as utilized last year. <br />3. Vietnam Veterans Silent March - July 2, 1988 <br />4:30 p.m. - Assemble at corner of Michigan and <br />Washington Streets and proceed along following route: <br />East to St. Joseph Street, cross (with light) to Century <br />Center side of street; north to Colfax; east across <br />bridge (staying on south sidewalk); cross over East <br />Race bridge with immediate south turn onto sidewalk <br />adjacent and east of the East Race and the river; <br />continue south along the river walkway, crossing <br />under the Jefferson Boulevard bridge into Howard <br />Park, assembling at or near the existing signs <br />about the Vietnam Memorial. <br />1 <br />
