REGULAR MEETING MAY 2, 1988 <br />REQUEST OF DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY TO CLOSE KEMBLE AVENUE IN <br />CONJUNCTION WITH HEALTH FAIR - MAY 21, 1988 - REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Richard E. Strutner, Lieutenant <br />Commander, Department of the Navy, Naval & Marine Corps Reserve <br />Center, 1901 South Kemble Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, advised <br />that the Reserve is sponsoring a one (1) day Health Fair on May <br />21, 1988 at the Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center, 1901 South <br />Kemble Avenue. During the Fair, a Fitness Duel will be conducted <br />which will involve teams from local businesses, community <br />organizations and governmental agencies, each competing in a <br />series of five (5) events. For one (1) of the events, the <br />Gourney Race, it will be necessary to have a small portion of <br />Kemble Avenue, between Donald and Calvert Streets closed from <br />10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, <br />seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the request was referred <br />to the appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and <br />recommendation. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF ERSKINE PLAZA TO ERECT SIGN IN PUBLIC <br />RIGHT-OF-WAY <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Robert E. Dunbar, Jr., Development <br />Director, Cressy and Everett, P.O. Box 4666, 227 South Main <br />Street, South Bend, Indiana, submitted a request for the <br />placement of an island and pylon sign to be located at High <br />Street and Ireland Road. Mr. Dunbar submitted with the request <br />plans and specifications for the island and pylon sign to be <br />located in the public right-of-way. Mr. Leszczynski advised that <br />Erskine Plaza Associates have also submitted a Certificate of <br />Insurance covering this installation. Therefore, upon a motion <br />made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, <br />the installation of the above referred to island and pylon sign <br />was approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF WEST WASHINGTON CHAPIN REVITALIZATION PROJECT <br />TO SPONSOR A MARCH AGAINST CRIME - JUNE 4, 1988 <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that various City departments and bureaus <br />have reviewed the above referred to request submitted to the <br />Board on April 4, 1988 and recommend approval. It was noted that <br />the original request indicated that the March would take place on <br />May 7, 1988 but that date has been changed to June 4, 1988. Upon <br />a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Ms. Humphreys and <br />carried, the recommendation was accepted and the request <br />approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF ST. JOSEPH COUNTY CHAPTER OF NATIONAL CHILD <br />SAFETY COUNCIL TO CONDUCT INTERSECTION SOLICITATIONS - MAY 7, <br />1988 <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the appropriate City departments and <br />bureaus have reviewed the above referred to request submitted to <br />the Board on April 4, 1988 and recommend approval. It was noted <br />that the Police Department Traffic Division advised that solici- <br />tators must stay on the sidewalks as no street solicitations are <br />allowed. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. <br />DeClercq and carried, the recommendation was accepted and the <br />request approved. <br />APPRO <br />CORVI <br />UEST OF ST.
