REGULAR MEETING <br />APRIL 11, 1988 <br />11 <br />1 <br />1 <br />REQUEST OF AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY TO CONDUCT POPPY DAY SALES <br />- MAY 13-14, 1988 - REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Jean Bowersox, Co -Chairman, <br />American Legion Auxiliary, Pulaski Unit 357, 1606 Western <br />Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, advised that Auxiliary Unit #357 <br />would like permission to offer poppies on the sidewalks in South <br />Bend on May 13-14, 1988. Upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, <br />seconded by Ms. Humphreys and carried, the request was referred <br />to the appropriate departments and bureaus for review and <br />recommendation. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF POLICE DEPARTMENT TO CONDUCT BICYCLE AND <br />UNCLAIMED PROPERTY AUCTION - MAY 7, 1988 <br />In a letter to the Board, Police Chief Charles T. Hurley and <br />Services Division Chief Ronald G. Marciniak, requested <br />permission to dispose of unclaimed bicycles and other unclaimed <br />property at a public auction to be held on Saturday, May 7, <br />1988. The auction will be held from 8:30 a.m. and conclude at <br />12:30 p.m. or until all items are sold. It was noted that a <br />partial list of the items to be sold include bicycles, mopeds, <br />tools, clothing, stereo's, radio's, jewelry, tires and <br />miscellaneous goods. Receipts from the sale will be forwarded <br />to the proper accounts of the City of South Bend. The auction <br />will be held rain or shine in the Street Department garage at <br />the rear of the Police Department at 701 West Sample Street. <br />Upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Ms. Humphreys <br />and carried, the request was approved. <br />ST OF MEMORIAL HOSPIT. <br />- REFERRED <br />WITH YOUR DOC" - <br />Mrs. DeClercq advised that Mr. Chet Kolber, Director, Security <br />and Safety, Memorial Hospital, 615 North Michigan Street, South <br />Bend, Indiana, has informed the Board that on May 14, 1988 at <br />10:00 a.m. a fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association <br />will take place in the immediate area surrounding Memorial <br />Hospital. The event, a "Walk With Your Doc" will attract fifty <br />(50) physicians and approximately one thousand (1,000) <br />individuals who will participate in the one (1) mile walk. <br />Mr. Kolber further advised that the walkers will assemble on <br />Hospital property with the walk proceeding north on Main Street <br />to Park Lane, west to Lafayette, north to the river, east on <br />Riverside to Michigan Street, south to Navarre, west to <br />Lafayette, north to Bartlett, east to Main Street and back to <br />Memorial property. The entire event should be completed by <br />12:00 noon. <br />Therefore, Mr. Kolber requested that the following streets be <br />barricaded for this event: <br />Main Street from Bartlett to Park Lane <br />Park Lane from Michigan to Lafayette Street <br />Lafayette Street from Park Lane to Riverside Drive <br />Riverside Drive from Lafayette to Michigan Street <br />Mr. Kolber stated that only the east side of Lafayette Street <br />needs to be barricaded from Park Lane to Riverside Drive. This <br />will allow vehicular traffic to use the west side. The walkers <br />will begin to use the sidewalk along the west side of Michigan <br />Street on their walk around the hospital. <br />Upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Ms. Humphreys <br />and carried, the above outlined request was referred to the <br />appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and <br />recommendation. <br />
