tom <br />REGULAR MEETING APRIL 4. 1988 <br />DENY REQUEST TO PURCHASE CITY -OWNED PROPERTY AT 106-1081 NORTH <br />WALNUT STREET <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the appropriate City departments and <br />bureaus have reviewed the request submitted to the Board on <br />February 29, 1988 by Mr. Willie Payne to purchase the City -owned <br />property at 106-1082 North Walnut Street. The Department of <br />Economic Development has recommended that the property not be <br />sold as it is located within the primary planning area of the <br />West Washington -Chapin Development Area. They further <br />recommended that property in that area not be sold until the <br />comprehensive plan for the area is completed. Mrs. DeClercq <br />stated that she concurs with this recommendation and therefore <br />made a motion that the request to purchase this property be <br />denied. Ms. Humphreys seconded the motion and it carried. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF VFW TO CONDUCT POPPY DAY SALES - MAY 13-14. <br />1988 <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the appropriate City departments and <br />bureaus have reviewed the above referred to request submitted to <br />the Board on March 21, 1988 and recommend approval. Therefore, <br />upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Ms. Humphreys <br />and carried, the recommendation was accepted and the request <br />approved. <br />APPROVE APPLICATIONS FOR BIDDER QUALIFICATION/CERTIFICATION <br />Mr. Leszczynski informed the Board that Mr. Jimmy Scott, EEO <br />Officer for the City, has advised that he has reviewed the <br />applications for bidder qualification and/or certification as <br />submitted by the following applicants and has found that they <br />have met the requirements of the South Bend Affirmative Action <br />Ordinance. He, therefore recommends that the following be <br />approved as qualified City bidders and/or certified as a <br />minority/women owned business: <br />CERTIFIED AS MINORITY AND/OR WOMEN OWNED BUSINESSES: <br />1. Adiva, Inc. <br />2. Dujardin Enterprises <br />3. Sanco Distributing <br />4. Townsend Construction <br />5. Urich Chemical, Inc. <br />QUALIFIED AS CITY BIDDERS: <br />1. Adiva Inc. <br />2. American Cast Iron Pipe <br />3. Badger Meter <br />4. Harry H. Verkler, Contractor, Inc. <br />5. Shamrock Ford Truck Sales <br />6. Townsend Construction <br />7. Underground Pipe & Valve, Inc. <br />8. W & W International, Inc. <br />9. E & H Utility <br />Upon a motion made by Ms. Humphreys, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq <br />and carried, the recommendation as submitted by Mr. Scott was <br />accepted and the applications were approved. <br />APPROVE TEMPORARY STREET NAME CHANGES IN OBSERVANCE OF DYNGUS DAY <br />AND SOLIDARITY DAY <br />Mr. Leszczynski requested the following temporary street name <br />changes in observance of Dyngus Day and Solidarity Day, Monday, <br />April 4, 1988: <br />Ford Street, at Ford and Warren to be named <br />Dyngus Drive <br />Hill Street, from Jefferson to Corby to be named <br />Solidarity Avenue <br />Upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Ms. Humphreys <br />and carried, the request was approved. <br />
