342 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />NOVEMBER 13, 1989 <br />The first, from Mrs. Charles Vollmer, 830 30th Street, South <br />Bend, Indiana, requests that the parking space in front of her <br />residence be designated as a handicapped parking space. <br />Additionally, Ms. Amy L. York, 1208 Napier Street, South Bend, <br />Indiana, requested that the parking space in front of her <br />residence be designated as a handicapped parking space. Ms. York <br />noted that she has handicapped children who attend Logan School and <br />are picked up by JJR Vans. She noted that it is sometimes -very <br />difficult for the van to find a place to park in order to pick-up <br />the children. <br />Therefore, Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that the above referred <br />to requests be referred to the appropriate City departments and <br />bureaus for review and recommendation. Mrs. DeClercq seconded <br />the motion which carried. <br />REQUEST OF SOUTH BEND PUBLIC LIBRARY TO ERECT CANOPY THAT WILL <br />ENCROACH ONTO PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY AT 122 WEST WAYNE STREET - <br />REFERRED <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that Cole Associates, Inc., 2211 East <br />Jefferson Boulevard, South Bend, Indiana, has submitted to the <br />Board the appropriate drawings and diagrams in regards to the <br />erection of a canopy at the South Bend Public Libary located at <br />122 West Wayne Street which will encroach onto the public <br />right-of-way. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by <br />Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the request was referred to the <br />appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and <br />recommendation. <br />REQUEST FOR INSTALLATION OF STOP SIGN AT CALVERT AND ROBINSON <br />STREETS - REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Donald L. Hastings, 1638 East <br />Calvert Street, South Bend, Indiana, requested that the City <br />consider the installation of a stop sign at Calvert and Robinson <br />Streets. <br />Mr. Hastings advised the Board that there are no stop signs on <br />Calvert Street, between Ironwood Drive and Twyckenham Street, <br />thus allowing motorists to reach excessive speeds. He further <br />advised that an accident occurred most recently in which a child <br />was struck by a car. He noted that although accidents do not <br />occur on a daily basis, they have happened before and he would <br />appreciate whatever action it would take to slow down cars that <br />come down Calvert. Therefore, Mr. Hastings suggested the <br />placement of a stop sign at Calvert and Robinson Streets to slow <br />down motorists. <br />Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that the request be referred to the <br />appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and <br />recommendation. Mrs. DeClercq seconded the motion which carried. <br />APPROVE TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES <br />Upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Ms. Humphreys <br />and carried, the following two (2) traffic control devices were <br />approved: <br />1.
