258 <br />REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 28, 1989 <br />REQUEST OF CITY AWNING TO INSTALL A CANOPY AT 121 NORTH HIL_L__ <br />STREET - REFERRED <br />Mr. Hank Craft, Sales Representative, City Awning of South Bend, <br />1835 South Franklin Street, South Bend, Indiana, requested <br />permission to install a canopy at 121 North Hill Street, the <br />premises of Baer, Barkley & Company which will project two feet <br />(21011) out from the building. Mr. Craft submitted with the <br />request a drawing of the frame as well as structure details. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq <br />and carried, the request was referred to the appropriate City <br />departments and bureaus for review and recommendation <br />REQUEST TO PURCHASE CITY -OWNED PROPERTY - LOT #40 JEWELWOOD <br />ADDITION - REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Robert Galloway, 20502 Johnson <br />Road, South Bend, Indiana, requested permission to purchase <br />City -owned property known as Lot #40 of Jewelwood Addition, <br />Section 35-37-2E. Mr. Galloway noted that the purchase of this <br />property is needed for use as an access road to Katie Lane <br />Subdivision. Therefore, upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, <br />seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the request was referred <br />to the appropriate City departments and bureaus in order that a <br />determination can be made whether the City need retain this <br />property. <br />AWARD BID - ONE (1) INDUSTRIAL LOADER/BACKHOE WITH 500 FOOT POUND <br />HYDRAULIC BREAKER PERMANENTLY MOUNTED ON THE MACHINE <br />Mr. Robert Kruszynski, Manager, Department of Sanitation, advised <br />that he has reviewed the three (3) bids received on July 17, 1989 <br />for the above referred to equipment and at this time is <br />recommending that the bid of MacDonald Machinery, 52401 Ralph <br />Jones Drive, in the amount of $52,750.00 be awarded. <br />Mr. Kruszynski noted that the bid submitted by Rudd Equipment was <br />in the amount of $50,119.900 and the bid submitted by A.H. Choitz <br />was in the amount of $58,000.00. Mr. Kruszynski noted that the <br />low bid submitted by Rudd Equipment is not acceptable for two (2) <br />reasons as follows: <br />1. Rudd Equipment cannot show the City an operational <br />vehicle. <br />2. Rudd does not have a local parts and service facility as <br />specified under bid qualifications. <br />Mr. Kruszynski further noted that this equipment will be used by <br />the Bureau of Sewers construction crews. <br />Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that the recommendation be accepted <br />and the bid of MacDonald Machinery be accepted and awarded. Mrs. <br />DeClercq seconded the motion which carried. <br />Mr. Leszczynski noted that on June 2, 1989, Mr. Ralph Johnson, <br />734 North Cushing Street, South Bend, Indiana, submitted to the <br />Board a Petition signed by individuals supporting slant parking <br />along Michigan Street from Western to Colfax. At that time, the <br />Petition was referred to the appropriate City departments and <br />bureaus for review and recommendation. <br />At this time, Mr. Leszczynski advised that that recommendations <br />received indicate that the parking should not be changed as <br />suggested. <br />Mr. Leszczynski further advised that Mr. Michael P. Meeks, <br />Director, Division of Engineering, noted that accident reports do <br />not indicate an excessive amount of traffic accidents per year <br />
