REGULAR MEETING <br />JUNE 12, 1989 <br />1 <br />1 <br />REQUEST OF NOTRE DAME SENIORS TO CONDUCT RUN FROM NOTRE DAME TO <br />BRIDGET MC GUIRES - AUGUST 31, 1989 - REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Maureen O'Brien, 2769 Diana Avenue, <br />Anaheim, California, advised that in the Fall of 1989 she will be <br />a senior at the University of Notre Dame and is on a committee <br />that is planning a number of activities for senior welcome week <br />in August and early September. One of the activities planned for <br />this welcome week is a run from the University to Bridget <br />McGuire's. Ms. O'Brien therefore requested permission to conduct <br />a run from the University of Notre Dame to Bridget McGuires <br />located at the intersection of Corby and Eddy Streets on <br />Thursday, August 31, 1989 at 6:30 p.m. She stated that <br />approximately one hundred fifty (150) students will participate <br />in the event utilizing the route which she submitted with the <br />request. Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that the request be <br />referred to the appropriate City departments and bureaus for <br />review and recommendation. Mrs. DeClercq seconded the motion <br />which carried. <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Thomas F. Burzynski, Executive <br />Director, Hospice of St. Joseph County, Inc., 902 East Cedar <br />Street, South Bend, Indiana, advised that Hospice of St. Joseph <br />County would like to conduct its 4th annual Walk for Hospice on <br />Sunday, October 15, 1989, at 1:00 p.m., utilizing the route which <br />was submitted with the request. The walk would be a 17K walk <br />which would begin and end at Potawatomi Park. Upon a motion made <br />by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the <br />request was referred to the appropriate City departments and <br />bureaus for review and recommendation. <br />REQUEST TO PURCHASE CITY -OWNED PROPERTY AT THE N.E. CORNER OF <br />CHAPIN AND WESTERN AVENUE - REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Adel Zughayer, Owner, Hi Low <br />Grocery Store, 2321 Lincolnway West, South Bend, Indiana, advised <br />that he is interested in purchasing City owned lot numbers 2008, <br />2009 and 2010 which are located at the N.E. corner of Chapin and <br />Western Avenue. Mr. Zughayer stated that he would like to <br />purchase these lots to build a supermarket, laundry and beauty <br />shop if the space warrants. He stated that it is his intention <br />to make this area a mini shopping mall area. Therefore, Mr. <br />Leszczynski made a motion that this request be referred to the <br />appropriate City departments and bureaus in order that a <br />determination can be made whether the City need retain this <br />property. Mrs. DeClercq seconded the motion which carried. <br />REQUEST TO CONDUCT ETHNIC FESTIVAL EVENTS - REFERRED: <br />- TO CLOSE STREETS FOR ETHNIC FESTIVAL BOOTH AREA <br />- $1.00 PARKING RATE AT MUNICIPAL PARKING GARAGES (APPROVED) <br />- ETHNIC FESTIVAL BED RACE <br />- ETHNIC FESTIVAL BIKE RACE - JULY 1 1989 <br />-_FESTIVAL 4 MILE RUN & 1.1 MILE FUN RUN - JULY 2, 1989 <br />- ETHNIC FESTIVAL PARADE - JULY 1, 1989 <br />Ms. Mikki Dobski, Director, Office of Community Affairs, <br />submitted to the Board requests for the above referred to events <br />and advised that approval is appreciated. <br />Ms. Dobski requested permission to block the necessary streets <br />and to provide no parking areas to accommodate the 1989 Ethnic <br />Festival booths as follows: <br />- Michigan Street from Colfax to Western <br />- Washington Street from St. Joseph to Main <br />- Jefferson Street from St. Joseph to Main <br />- Wayne Street from St. Joseph to Main <br />- Western Avenue, from St. Joseph to Main <br />
