126 <br />REGULAR MEETING MAY 1, 1989 <br />REQUEST OF HATHAWAY, INC. TO INSTALL BARRICADE AND DUMPSTERS ON <br />PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY - JUNE 1, 1989 - REFERRED <br />Mr. Timothy E. Mathias, Hathaway 2, Inc., 215 West Madison <br />Street, South Bend, Indiana, advised that he is one of the owners <br />of the former J.C. Penny building at 220 South Michigan Street <br />and that he is currently in lease negotiations with Trustcorp of <br />Indiana and hopes to soon starta major renovation of the <br />facility. During the construction period it is necessary that <br />they provide a barricade and dumpsters on the Michigan Street <br />side of the building. Submitted with the request was a site plan <br />illustrating the placement of the barricade and dumpsters. <br />Therefore, Mr. Mathias requested Board approval and or permits to <br />install the barricade and dumpsters as outlined in the request. - <br />He further advised that it is anticipated that the project should <br />begin around the first of June. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the request <br />was referred to the appropriate City departments and bureaus for <br />review and recommendation. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF SOUTH BEND COMMUNITY SCHOOL CORPORATION FOR <br />REDUCED PARKING RATE AT COLFAX PARKING GARAGE_IN CONJUNCTION WITH <br />"ACHIEVERS ALL" CEREMONY AT MORRIS CIVIC AUDITORIUM - MAV lH_ <br />1989 <br />Dr. James P. Ashley, Director of Special Programs, South Bend <br />Community School Corporation, 635 South Main Street, South Bend, <br />Indiana, advised that on May 16, 1989, the SBCSC will hold its <br />annual "Achievers All" ceremony at the Morris Civic Auditorium. <br />On this evening, the SBCSC will recognize the high academic and <br />fine arts achievements of about six hundred (600) middle school <br />students. In the past approximately two thousand (2,000) persons <br />have attended the event. As parking in the past has been a <br />problem, Dr. Ashley inquired if it would be possible for the <br />attendees to park for free at the Colfax parking garage. Parking <br />will be needed from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that Ms. Katherine Humphreys, Director, <br />Administration and Finance, has reviewed this request and it is <br />her recommendation that the usual parking fee be reduced to $1.00 <br />for this event. Therefore, upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, Ms. <br />Humphreys' recommendation was accepted and a $1.00 flat rate was <br />approved for this event. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF MADISON HOME SCHOOL ORGANIZATION TO CLOSE PARK <br />LANE IN CONJUNCTION WITH ICE CREAM SOCIAL - MAY 19 1989 <br />Upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski <br />and carried, the above referred to request which was submitted to <br />the Board on April 24, 1989 and reviewed by various City <br />departments was approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF FAITH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH TO CLOSE <br />EASTBOUND ALLEY BETWEEN EWING AND ALTGELD IN CONJUNCTION wI <br />SUMMER BIBLE SCHOOL EVENT - JULY 18-20 1989 <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the various City departments <br />bureaus have reviewed the above referred to request which <br />submitted to the Board on April 24, 1989 and approval is <br />recommended. Therefore, Mrs. DeClercq made a motion that <br />recommendation be accepted and the request approved.
