125 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />MAY 1, 1989 <br />cities in St. Joseph County. The ceremony will begin at 1:30 <br />p.m. on the courthouse steps. <br />Therefore, it is requested that parking be prohibited by civilian <br />vehicles on both sides of the 100 block of South Main Street so <br />that police vehicles can park at both curb lines during the <br />ceremony. Also, police vehicles will park on the south curb line <br />area of the 200 block of West Washington Street during the <br />ceremony. The squad cars lining the street area will all have <br />their red lights on during the ceremony in a tribute to the <br />deceased officers. Also, permission is requested to fire a <br />volley of shots at the end of the ceremony. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq <br />and carried, the request as outlined above was approved. <br />UEST OF POTA <br />SOCIETY, INC. FOR PARKING <br />RESTRICTIONS IN CONJUNCTION WITH ZOOFEST - JUNE 10-11 1989 - <br />REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Barry Wertz, Potawatomi Zoological <br />Society, Inc., 500 South Greenlawn, P.O. Box 1764, South Bend, <br />Indiana, advised that the Society is planning its annual Zoofest <br />on June 10-11, 1989. In connection with this event, it is <br />requested that the zoo drive be designated one-way during this <br />time to alleviate traffic problems. <br />ATOMI ZOOLOGIC. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq <br />and carried, the request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic <br />and Lighting and the Police Department Traffic Division for <br />review and recommendation. <br />REQUEST OF TRANSPO TO RENAME MAIN/JEFFERSON STREET AS "TRANSPO <br />WAY" FOR ONE DAY - MAY 17, 1989 - REFERRED <br />Ms. Mary Beth McAdams, Marketing & Planning Manager, South Bend <br />Public Transportation Corporation, 901 East Northside Boulevard, <br />P.O. Box 1437, South Bend, Indiana, advised that in conjunction <br />with National Transportation Week scheduled for May 14-20, 1989, <br />TRANSPO is planning a special Transit Day on May 17, 1989. <br />In conjunction with the activities scheduled for the day, TRANSPO <br />would like to include a street -renaming at the South Bend <br />transfer center. Therefore, TRANSPO requests a one (1) day <br />street renaming at Main and Jefferson Streets to "Transpo Way." <br />Ms. McAdams further advised that TRANSPO will conduct a press <br />conference at the South Bend transfer center at 9:30 a.m. on <br />Wednesday, May 17th and they wish to perform the renaming at that <br />time. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq <br />and carried, the request was referred to the appropriate City <br />departments and bureaus for review and recommendation. <br />REQUEST OF WEST SIDE MEMORIAL COMMITTEE TO CONDUCT MEMORIAL DAY <br />PARADE - MAY 29, 1989 - REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Adeline Waslicki-Jaskowiak, on <br />behalf of the West Side Memorial Committee, requested permission <br />to conduct the annual Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 29, <br />1989. The parade will assemble at 8:00 a.m. at Olive and Ford <br />Streets, will move out at 8:30 a.m., proceed west on Ford Street <br />past Pierre Navarre School and disband at Summit Drive. The time <br />of the parade from start to finish will be approximately one and <br />one-half (1 1/2) hours. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, <br />seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the request was referred <br />to the appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and <br />recommendation. <br />
