<br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR THE RECEIPT OF BIDS:
<br />- VIRIDIAN DRIVE PHASE IV PROJECT
<br />- RALPH JONES/WILLIAM RICHARDSON DRIVE PROJECT
<br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr. Michael P. Meeks, Director,
<br />Division of Engineering, requested that the Board advertise for
<br />the receipt of bids for the above referred to projects. Mr.
<br />Meeks stated that the Viridian Drive Phase IV Project entails,a
<br />one hundred sixty foot (1601) extension of Viridian Drive. The
<br />Ralph Jones/William Richardson Drive Project includes extensions
<br />to both of these roads. Therefore, upon a motion made by Mrs.
<br />DeClercq, seconded by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, the requests
<br />were approved.
<br />REQUEST OF ST. MARY OF THE ASSUMPTION CHURCH TO CLOSE A PORTION
<br />OF ASSUMPTION DRIVE IN CONJUNCTION WITH ANNUAL PARISH FESTIVAL -
<br />AUGUST 13, 1989 - REFERRED
<br />In a letter to the Board, Father John F. Pfister, Pastor, St.
<br />Mary of the Assumption Church, 3501 South Locust Road, South
<br />Bend, Indiana, requested permission to close a portion of
<br />Assumption Drive on Sunday, August 13, 1989, from 12:00 noon
<br />until 9:00 p.m. in conjunction with the Annual Parish Festival.
<br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq
<br />and carried, the request was referred to the appropriate City
<br />departments and bureaus for review and recommendation.
<br />REQUEST OF KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS TO CONDUCT ANNUAL TOOTSIE ROLL
<br />SALE ON PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY - MAY 12-13 1989 - REFERRED
<br />Mr. Martin J. Moorman, Chairman, St. Joe Valley Knights of
<br />Columbus Councils, 61533 South Ironwood Drive, South Bend,
<br />Indiana, advised that the St. Joseph Valley Chapter, Knights of
<br />Columbus, consisting of ten (10) local Councils, request
<br />permission to hold their annual Tootsie Roll Drive on Friday, May
<br />12, 1989 and Saturday, May 13, 1989. Mr. Moorman noted that
<br />tootsie rolls will be offered on the public sidewalk in front of
<br />Osco Drugs and Inwoods in downtown South Bend. Upon a motion
<br />made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried,
<br />the request was referred to the appropriate City departments and
<br />bureaus for review and recommendation.
<br />REQUEST OF PROGRESSIVE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH TO CONDUCT A
<br />WALK-A-THON - JUNE 17, 1989 - REFERRED
<br />Ms. Laura Davis, Organizer, Progressive Missionary Baptist
<br />Church, Inc., 1232 East Bronson, P.O. Box 4094, South Bend,
<br />Indiana, advised the Board that the Church is planning a
<br />Walk-a-Thon on June 17, 1989 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. It is
<br />anticipated that approximately fifty (50) individuals will
<br />participate in the walk-a-thon. All participants will be walking
<br />on the sidewalk utilizing the route submitted with the request.
<br />Ms. Davis advised that the purpose of the walk is to raise money
<br />to buy church pews. Therefore, upon a motion made by Mr.
<br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the request
<br />was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, Police
<br />Department Traffic Division and City Attorney's office for review
<br />and recommendation.
<br />APPROVE REQUEST OF FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE FOR PARKING
<br />RESTRICTIONS IN CONJUNCTION WITH MEMORIAL CEREMONY - MAY 16, 1989
<br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Board is in receipt of a letter
<br />from Mr. Larry Zurat, President, Lodge 36, Fraternal Order of
<br />Police, P.O. Box 299, South Bend, Indiana, along with Edward I.
<br />Friend, Lodge Member and Glenn McQueen, Lodge Chaplain, advising
<br />that on Tuesday, May 16, 1989, the Fraternal Order of Police
<br />Lodge 36 and Lodge 91 of Mishawaka and Lodge 155 of St. Joseph
<br />County will hold a combined memorial ceremony in honor of
<br />officers who have died in the line of duty in our county and
