<br />APPROVE REQUEST OF POLICE DEPARTMENT TO CONDUCT BICYCLE AND
<br />UNCLAIMED PROPERTY AUCTION - MAY 20, 1989
<br />In a letter to the Board, Police Chief Ronald G. Marciniak,
<br />requested permission to dispose of unclaimed bicycles and other
<br />unclaimed property at a public auction to be held on Saturday,
<br />May 20, 1989 beginning at 8:30 a.m. and concluding at
<br />approximately 12:30 p.m. or until all items are sold.
<br />Chief Marciniak indicated that a partial list of items to be sold
<br />are bicycles, lawn furniture, televisions, typewriters, stereo
<br />gear, gas grill and miscellaneous goods. As always, the auction
<br />will be held rain or shine in the Street Department garage at the
<br />rear of the police station.
<br />Upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Ms. Humphreys
<br />and carried, the request was approved as submitted.
<br />REQUEST OF ST. JOSEPH COUNTY MEMORIAL SOCIETY TO CLOSE WASHINGTON
<br />STREET BETWEEN MAIN AND LAFAYETTE IN CONJUNCTION WITH MEMORIAL
<br />DAY ACTIVITIES - MAY 29, 1989 - REFERRED
<br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Board is in receipt of a letter
<br />from Ms. Virginia Hanson, Secretary, St. Joseph County Memorial
<br />Society, 19459 Orchard Street, South Bend, Indiana, requesting
<br />that Washington Street, between Main and Lafayette, be closed for
<br />approximately one (1) hour on Monday, May 29, 1989 beginning at
<br />2:00 p.m. in conjunction with Memorial Day activities to be
<br />conducted in front of the Sailors and Soliders Monument on the
<br />courthouse lawn. Upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded
<br />by Ms. Humphreys and carried, the request was referred to the
<br />appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and
<br />recommendation.
<br />REQUEST OF ST. JOE VALLEY WATERCOLOR SOCIETY FOR TRAFFIC CONTROL
<br />ASSISTANCE IN CONJUNCTION WITH LEEPER PARK ART FAIR - JUNE 24-25
<br />1989 - REFERRED
<br />Ms. Elizabeth James, Director, St. Joe Valley Watercolor Society,
<br />P.O. Box 6038, South Bend Indiana, advised the Board that the St.
<br />Joe Valley Watercolor Society, sponsors of the Leeper Park Art
<br />Fair, has obtained permission from the Board of Park
<br />Commissioners to use Leeper Park for purposes of conducting the
<br />annual art fair Ms. James stated that they have fulfilled the
<br />requirements for insurance in the amount mandated by the City.
<br />At this time, Ms. James advised that the Society is requesting
<br />assistance to ease traffic congestion on the days of the fair.
<br />They would like the streets Riverside Drive (bordering on the
<br />north side of Leeper Park) made one-way west. Also, Park Lane,
<br />(bordering on the south side of Leeper Park) made one-way east.
<br />Additionally, it is requested that Riverside Drive and one (1)
<br />side of Park Lane be posted with "No Parking" signs which would
<br />result in parking on only one (1) side of each of those streets.
<br />Ms. James stated that it is hoped that this could be enforced by
<br />the Civil Defense.
<br />In addition to the above traffic control from Civil Defense,
<br />their services are requested for security of the paraphernalia
<br />belonging to the artists that would remain in the park
<br />overnight. Security would be needed from 6:00 p.m., Saturday,
<br />June 24, 1989 until 9:00 a.m., Sunday, June 25, 1989.
<br />Therefore, upon a motion made by Mrs. DeClercq, seconded by Ms.
<br />Humphreys and carried, the 'above request was referred to the
<br />appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and
<br />recommendation.
