158
REGULAR MEETING MAY 7, 1990
REQUESTS OF CITY AWNING TO INSTALL CANOPIES AT•
- 325 NORTH LAFAYETTE BOULEVARD (ENGLEWOOD ELECTRICAL SUPPLY)
- 3004 ARDMORE TRAIL (LACOPO'S PIZZERIA) - REFERRED
In a letter to the Board, Mr. Robert L. Hinsch, City Awning of
South Bend, 1835 South Franklin Street, South Bend, Indiana,
requested permission to install two (2) canopies at 325 North
Lafayette on either side of the front entrance. Mr. Hinsch
submitted with his request a drawing of the frame as well as
structure details. He also noted that the canopies will project
two (2) feet out from the building and will be over the public
right-of-way. He noted that the canopies will be no lower than
ten feet (101) zero inches (011) above the sidewalk.
Additionally, in a letter to the Board, Mr. Hank Craft, Sales
Representative, City Awning of South Bend, requested permission
to install a canopy at Lacopo's Pizzeria, 3004 Ardmore Trail.
Mr. Craft also submitted drawings of the canopies which included
details of the installation.
Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that the above referred to two (2)
requests be referred to the appropriate City departments and
bureaus for review and recommendation. Mrs. DeClercq seconded
the motion which carried.
DENY REQUEST TO CLOSE REX STREET, FROM PORTAGE TO ASHLAND AVENUE
FOR NEIGHBORHOOD_ BLOCK PARTY - MAY 12 1990
Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr. Stephen Luecke, 1st District
Councilmember, has recommended to the Board that the above
referred to request, which was submitted to the Board on April
16, 1990, be denied, as it is not a block party for residents of
the area but a graduation party in which approximately five
hundred (500) students are expected to attend. Therefore, Mrs.
DeClercq made a motion that the request be denied. Mr.
Leszczynski seconded the motion which carried.
DENY REQUEST TO CLOSE KALORAMA, BETWEEN ST. LOUIS BOULEVARD AND
HILL, FOR PRE -GRADUATION BLOCK PARTY - MAY 15, 1990
Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Police Department has
recommended that the above referred to request, which was
submitted to the Board on April 30, 1990, be denied. In
response to a question from the news media, Mr. Leszczynski
explained that the Board's concept of a block party is a party
planned by and for the residents of a particular neighborhood.
Mrs. DeClercq noted that in a typical block party request, all
residents are advised of the street closing and invited to attend
whether they choose to or not.
Therefore, Mrs. DeClercq made a motion that the request be
denied. Ms. Humphreys seconded the motion which carried.
APPROVE REQUESTS:
- OF CITY AWNING TO
MICHIGAN STREET (
STALL A
'S
CANOPY AT 1614
- OF KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS TO CONDUCT TOOTSIE ROLL SALES - MAY
11-12, 1990
- OF OFFICE OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS TO CONDUCT WORLD'S LARGEST
GARAGE SALE AT JEFFERSON/ST.
