REGULAR MEETING <br />AUGUST 5, 1991 <br />Therefore, Mrs. DeClercq made a <br />accepted and the bid of Allied <br />Leszczynski seconded the motion <br />motion that the recommendation be <br />Colloids be awarded. Mr. <br />which carried. <br />REQUESTS REFERRED: <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq <br />and carried, the following requests were referred to the. <br />appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and <br />recommendation: <br />�- OF MEMORIAL HOSPITAL TO CONDUCT BIATHALON RACE - SEPTEMBER <br />14, 1991 <br />Mr. Philip A. Newbold, President and Chief Executive Officer, <br />Memorial Hospital of South Bend, 615 North Michigan Street, <br />South Bend, Indiana, advised that Memorial Hospital and <br />Health System is interested in holding a biathalon race on <br />Saturday, September 14, 1991. <br />Mr. Newbold noted that a biathalon is a race involving both <br />running as well as biking. The proposed distances are a 3.1 <br />mile run (5K) followed by a 18.6 mile bike (30K) followed by <br />the same 3.1 mile run (5K). Memorial has had two (2) <br />previous biathalon races held on Roosevelt Road in Greene <br />Township. They would like to move the biathalon race closer <br />to the downtown area to increase visability and participation <br />as well as continue to use their event as a fund raiser for <br />their Children's HealthStart Clinic. All proceeds for this <br />event go to support the Children's HealthStart Clinic. <br />The race will be held on Saturday, September 14, 1991, <br />beginning at 8:00 a.m. from the parking lot adjacent to the <br />Knights of Columbus hall located at 813 North Michigan <br />Street. Submitted with the request were the proposed routes <br />for both the running as well as the biking events. Memorial <br />will provide an additional number of volunteers. The biking <br />portion of the race should be completed by 10:00 a.m. and the <br />final run and race completed by 11z00 a.m. Approximately <br />three hundred (300) participants will take part in this <br />event. <br />r OF ST. JOSEPH HIGH SCHOOL TO CONDUCT WALK-A-THON - SEPTEMBER <br />22, 1991 <br />Dr. Donald Holder, Principal, Saint .Joseph High School, 1441 <br />North Michigan Street, South Bend, Indiana, requested <br />permission to conduct a Walk-A-Thon on Sunday, September 22, <br />1991 at 1:00 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Saint <br />Joseph's High School to raise funds for the benefit of the <br />school's co -curricular activities. The participants will be <br />Saint Joseph's High School students, parents, alumni, <br />administrators and School Board. Eight hundred (800) <br />individuals are expected to participate. Dr. Holder <br />submitted with the request the proposed route for this event. <br />OF IUSB TO CLOSE NORTHSIDE BOULEVARD, FROM VETERAN'S MEMORIAL <br />PARK TO 20TH STREET, IN CONJUNCTION WITH 25TH ANNIVERSARY <br />CELEBRATION - AUGUST 30, 1991 <br />Ms. Mikki Dobski, Director, Office oflCommunity Affairs, <br />advised the Board that in honor of their twenty-fifth <br />anniversary IUSB has requested permission for a fireworks <br />show on August 30, 1991. They will be utilizing Redden's <br />property across the river from Northside Hall and have <br />received permission from the owners for the event. The Fire <br />Department has given them preliminary information on code <br />requirements. <br />
