11
REGULAR MEETING
DECEMBER 7, 1992
in the Mayflower 5th Addition. Mr. Leszczynski made a motion
that this check be accepted. Mrs. Mueller seconded the motion
which carried.
AWARD BID - TWO (2) TANDEM AXLE DUMP TRUCKS
In a letter to the Board, Mr. Matthew L. Chlebowski, Interim
Director, Division of Equipment Services, advised that, on behalf
of the Division of Transportation, he requests Board approval for
the purchase of two (2) tandem axle dump trucks fully equipped
from Shamrock Ford Truck Sales, 4707 Western Avenue,'South Bend,
Indiana, in the amount of $113,106.00. It is noted that Shamrock
Ford was the low bidder for this equipment. Bids for these
trucks were opened by the Board on November 16, 1992. Mr.
Caldwell made a motion that the recommendation be accepted and
the bid be awarded. Mrs. Mueller seconded the motion which
carried.
AWARD BID - PUMP NO. 3 ENGINE REPLACEMENT - WASTEWATER TREATMENT
PLANT
Mr. Carl P. Littrell, Director, Division of Engineering, advised
the Board that on November 30, 1992, the Board received four (4)
bids for the replacement of the main raw sewage pump No. 3 engine
and drive at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Mr. Littrell noted
that he has reviewed the bids'and found the amounts of the bids
agree with the amounts read at the Board meeting. Therefore, Mr.
Littrell recommended that the Board approve the award of this
project to the lowest bidder, Shaum Electric Company, Inc., 1125
North Nappanee Street, Elkhart, Indiana, in the amount of
$246,260.00. Mr. Littrell further noted that the Division of
Environmental Services concurs in this recommendation., Mr.
Leszczynski made a motion that the bid be awarded as
recommended. Mr. Caldwell seconded the motion which carried.
FAVORABLE RECOMMENDATION - VACATION OF 1ST E/W ALLEY'SOUTH OF
EAST MISHAWAKA AVENUE
Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Common Council has submitted to
the Board a revised Vacation Petition as completed by Grama K.
Bhagavan for Taylor & Moyer Insurance Agency, 1416 Mishawaka
Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, to vacate the following alley:
First east/west alley south of East Mishawaka Avenue
from the east right-of-way line of South Oakland Street
to the west right-of-way line of the first intersecting
north/south alley east of South Oakland Avenue for a
distance of approximately 235 feet and a width of
approximately 14 feet. Part situated in Hibberd Place
Subdivision in the City of South Bend, Indiana.
It is noted that this Vacation Petition originally came before
the Board on November 16, 1992, but because of some discrepancies
between the legal description contained in the ordinance and the
map submitted with the petition, the Board tabled making a
recommendation until this discrepancy could be cleared up. Now,
a reviewed Petition has been submitted for consideration.
Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Board is in receipt of
recommendations from various departments and bureaus that have
reviewed this request. The Area Plan Commission has advised that
the owner of Lot 6 appears to be using the subject alley for
access to his or her property. There is a garage facing the
alley on the property. The two (2) other garages located along
the alley are on property owned by the Petitioner. However, the
above mentioned property is not. Therefore, the Area Plan
Commission suggested that this alley not be vacated unless an
Easement is granted to this property for access, or unless this
owner has no objections to the vacation.
