461 <br />REGULAR MEETING MAY 11, 1992 <br />Additionally, upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by <br />Mr. Caldwell and carried, the following requests were referred to <br />the appropriate City departments for review and recommendation: <br />OF THE WEST SIDE MEMORIAL COMMITTEE TO CONDUCT ANNUAL <br />MEMORIAL DAY PARADE - MAY 25, 1992 <br />Mrs. Adeline Jaskowiak, Secretary, West Side Memorial <br />Committee, requested permission on behalf of the West Side <br />Memorial Committee, to conduct the annual Memorial Day parade <br />on Monday, May 25, 1992. The parade will assemble at 7:45 <br />a.m. on that date at Olive and Ford Streets and will begin at <br />8:30 a.m. proceeding West on Ford Street, past Pierre Navarre <br />School to disband at Summit Drive. Mrs. Jaskowiak noted that <br />the parade will last about one and one-half hours. <br />- TO PURCHASE CITY -OWNED PROPERTY AT 229 PAGIN STREET <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. John Collins, 1317 Linden <br />Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, advised that he is interested in <br />purchasing the vacant City -owned lot located at 229 Pagin <br />Street. <br />Also, upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. <br />Mueller and carried, the following request was referred to the <br />appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and <br />recommendation: <br />OF WAYNE STREET HISTORIC DISTRICT FOR LIGHTING <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Georgia Shaw, Chairperson, East <br />Wayne Street Historic District Liaison Committee, advised <br />that the East Wayne Street Historic District plans to <br />celebrate five (5) years of success as an historic district. <br />Plans include refurbishing two (2) entry posts by mounting <br />new lights at the entrance to the Sunnymede neighborhood on <br />Eddy Street. Purchase of and wiring will be done at their <br />expense. This will include a meter box and photoelectric <br />cell. It will enhance the neighborhood and the City by <br />restoring what was originally in place in the 1920's. It <br />will demonstrate to visitors that residents feel pride in <br />their homes. It will be attractive to newcomers to the area <br />and will give people a source of satisfaction in taking <br />action for beautification and preservation of South Bend. <br />Ms. Shaw asked that after their lights are installed by <br />electricians at their expense, the Board OF Public Works <br />then instruct whomever is responsible to connect these lights <br />with other lights/wiring in the district. This would mean <br />wiring from their meter to the City meter base on a "payback <br />basis" according to Mr. Jim Cartwright of Indiana and <br />Michigan Power Company. Mr. Cartwright has advised them that <br />what they are requesting is standard operating procedure in <br />other neighborhoods. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF GRAND ENCAMPMENT OF INDIANA INDEPENDENT ORDER <br />OF ODD FELLOW TO CONDUCT MOTORCADE TO CITY CEMETERY - MAY 17, <br />1992 <br />Mr. Paul T. Kunz, Grand Junior Warden, Grand Encampment of <br />Indiana Independent Order of Odd Fellows, 56090 Currant Road, <br />Mishawaka, Indiana, advised that on May 17, 1992, the Odd Fellows <br />and Rebekahs will honor Schuyler Colfax at the City Cemetery. <br />They will assemble at the Odd Fellows Temple, 1625 North Bendix <br />Drive at 1:15 p.m. and form a motorcade of several cars to drive <br />to the City Cemetery for services. They will have several people <br />from other states that do get lost sometimes and therefore are <br />requesting a police escort to get vehicles to the cemetery in a <br />safe and orderly manner.
