REGULAR MEETING APRIL 13, 1992 Mr. Hallmark provided the specifics and dimensions of the usable space and the length and depth of the tables and chairs and how they will affect pedestrians walking past the restaurant. Mr. Hallmark stated that he would like to begin setting the tables outside of his establishment immediately, weather permitting, and would like to continue this practice until the end of September. Mr. Caldwell made a motion that the above referred to request be referred to the appropriate departments and bureaus for review and recommendation. Mrs. Mueller seconded the motion which carried. PITS WASHINGTON/MAIN STREETS In a letter to the Board, Mr. Sam Altreuter, Altreuter Peabody, Inc., 74 Atlantic Avenue, Marblehead, MA, requested approval to place sidewalk tree pits in the public right-of-way in lieu of the planters next to the Valley American Bank Building located on Washington and Main Streets in downtown South Bend. Mr. Altreuter submitted with the request descriptions and sketches of the proposed locations. Mr. Altreuter noted that the original planters along the building storefront on Washington and Main Streets have been or are scheduled to be removed due to leaking into the occupied basement of the building. They have had a landscape architect review the different options to provide landscaping at street level and a decision was made to use sidewalk tree pits because they provide a vertical scale and enhance the streetscape on Washington and Main Streets. They have retained Turner Construction Company, the general contractor for the building remodeling work, to handle the installation of the sidewalk tree pits. Therefore, Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that the above outlined requested be referred to the appropriate departments and bureaus for review and recommendation. Mr. Caldwell seconded the motion which carried. APPROVE REQUESTS: - REQUEST TO CLOSE KALORAMA, FROM ST. LOUIS TO HILL STREEZ FOR NEIGHBORHOOD BARBECUE AND PARTY - APRIL 25, 1992 - OF MAURICE MATTHYS LITTLE LEAGUE TO CONDUCT OPENING DP PARADE - MAY 16, 1992 Mr. Leszczynski advised that Mr. Charles Smith, 801 St. Louis, South Bend, Indiana, submitted an Application For Use Of And Blocking Of Access To Public Right -Of -Way For A Party or Similar Event, requesting that Kalorama, from St. Louis to Hill Street, be closed on Saturday, April 25, 1992, from 12:00 noon to 7:00 p.m. for a neighborhood barbecue and party. Mr. Leszczynski further advised that this request has been reviewed by the appropriate City departments and bureaus and approval is recommended. Therefore, Mrs. Mueller made a motion that the request to close Kalorama Street be approved subject to the execution of the appropriate Indemnification Agreement. Mr. Leszczynski seconded the motion which carried. Additionally, Mr. Leszczynski noted that the appropriate City departments and bureaus have reviewed the request of the Maurice Matthys Little League to conduct their opening day parade on May 16, 1992 and approval is recommendation. Mrs. Mueller made a motion that the request of the Maurice Matthys Little League be approved subject to their executing the required Indemnification Agreement. Mr. Caldwell seconded the motion which carried.
