163r <br />REGULAR MEETING APRIL 19, 1993 <br />Control, Information and Communication System Project. This <br />Project consists of the furnishing of all materials, equipment and <br />labor for Phase I of the Control, Information and Communication <br />System, including but not limited to furnishing all materials and <br />labor, including radios, computers, towers, furniture, electrical <br />devices, mechanical devices, meters and all other work pursuant to <br />the plans and specifications for this project. Mrs. Mueller made <br />a motion that this request be approved. Mr. Caldwell seconded the <br />motion which carried. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR THE RECEIPT OF BIDS - THIRTY-FIVE <br />(35), MORE OR LESS, PORTABLE TRANSCEIVER RADIOS AND ACCESSORIES - <br />SOUTH BEND POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />Police Chief Ronald G. Marciniak informed the Board that the <br />Department is in need of at least thirty-five (35) portable <br />transceiver radios and accessories for use by police officers. As <br />compatibility between obtainable portable radios and the present <br />car mounted charging units is no longer available, the purchase of <br />these radios will allow officers assigned to patrol duty the <br />ability to maintain a portable radio on their duty belt while on <br />patrol as well as utilize an installed dash mounted separate radio <br />and have reliable communication at all times. Therefore, Chief <br />Marciniak requested that the Board advertise for the receipt of <br />bids for the purchase of these radios. Mrs. Mueller made a motion <br />that this request be approved. Mr. Caldwell seconded the motion <br />which carried. <br />REQUESTS REFERRED: <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. Mueller <br />and carried, the following requests were referred to the <br />appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and <br />recommendation: <br />OF MAURICE MATTHYS LITTLE LEAGUE, INC. TO CONDUCT PARADE - <br />MAY 15, 1993 <br />Mr. Rick L. Kring, Opening Day Chairman, Maurice Matthys <br />Little League, Inc., Box 3074, South Bend, Indiana, requested <br />permission to conduct a parade on Saturday, May 15, 1993, <br />beginning at 9:00 a.m., utilizing the route submitted with <br />the request. Mr. Kring noted that sixty (60) vehicles will <br />participate in this parade. <br />OF HOOSIER HOOPS TO CLOSE THE 100 BLOCK OF WEST WESTERN <br />AVENUE - JULY 2-3, 1993 <br />Mr. Jon R. Hickey, Member of the Committee, Hoosier Hoops, <br />P.O. Box 988, South Bend, Indiana, advised that the Committee <br />for Hoosier Hoops would like permission to close the 100 <br />block of West Western Avenue on July 2-3, 1993. <br />Mr. Hickey noted that they are requesting the closing of the <br />street after 1:00 p.m. on July 2, 1993 to set-up for the 3 on <br />3 Classic. They will finish all play on Saturday, July 3 and <br />will remove all backboards by Saturday night. Mr. Hickey <br />noted that this is the same time as the Ethnic Festival. <br />Mr. Hickey further informed the Board that they have received <br />permission from The Holladay Corporation for use of the south <br />parking lot off of Western Avenue and the Baer's parking lot <br />from the Ethnic Festival Committee. They feel that by using <br />Western Avenue, the players will be safer and they will not <br />have to use the Baer's lot. <br />FOR DESIGNATED HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACE AT THE CORNER OF <br />HAMILTON AND JOHNSON STREETS <br />
