REGULAR MEETING <br />MARCH 29, 1993 <br />distance of approximately 172 feet and a width <br />of approximately 14 feet. Part situated in <br />Rockafeller's Third Addition to the City of <br />South Bend, Indiana. <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Board is in receipt of favorable <br />recommendations concerning this Vacation Petition from the Area <br />Plan Commission, Legal Department, Fire Department, Department of <br />Economic Development and the Department of Public Works. <br />Therefore, Mr. Caldwell made a motion that the Board send a <br />favorable recommendation to the Common Council concerning this <br />Vacation Petition. Mr. Caldwell seconded the motion which <br />carried. <br />BIDS REJECTED - SIXTY-FIVE (65) MORE OR LESS, UHF PORTABLE TWO-WAY <br />RADIOS AND VEHICULAR CHARGERS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />In a letter to the Board, Police Chief Ronald G. Marciniak advised <br />that the Police Department wishes to reject all bids received on <br />December 12, 1992,.for portable transceiver radios. The <br />unavailability of a unit in the anticipated price range with the <br />features the Department requires has led them to reevaluate their <br />needs and make the determination for rejection of the bids. Chief <br />Marciniak noted that this rejection applies only to the Police <br />Department portion of the request for bids. Therefore, Mrs. <br />Mueller made a motion that the request be approved and the bids be <br />rejected. Mr. Caldwell seconded the motion which carried. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR THE RECEIPT OF BIDS - TWENTY-SIX <br />(26) TRANSCEIVER RADIOS - POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />In a letter to the Board, Police Chief Ronald G. Marciniak, <br />advised that the Police Department is in need of twenty-six (26) <br />transceiver radios for installation in patrol cars. As <br />compatibility between obtainable portable radios and the present <br />car mounted charging units is no longer available, the <br />installation of these six (6) channel radios will allow officers <br />assigned to patrol duty the ability to maintain a portable radio <br />on their duty belt and have reliable communication from the auto <br />via this new radio. Therefore, Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that <br />the request be approved. Mr. Caldwell seconded the motion which <br />carried. <br />REQUEST OF V.F.W. TO CONDUCT ANNUAL POPPY DAY SALES - MAY 21-22. <br />1993 - REFERRED <br />Mr. Jerald McClanahan, Commander and Mr. George Grenert, <br />Quartermaster, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S., South Bend <br />Post No. 1167, 1047 Lincolnway East, South Bend, Indiana, <br />requested permission to hold their annual Poppy Day Sales on the <br />public sidewalks throughout the City of South Bend on Friday, May <br />21, 1993 and Saturday, May 22, 1993. Mr. Leszczynski made a <br />motion that this request be referred to the appropriate City <br />departments and bureaus for review and recommendation. Mrs. <br />Mueller seconded the motion which carried. <br />APPROVE TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. Mueller <br />and carried, the following two (2) traffic control devices were <br />approved: <br />1. REVISED TO: TOW ZONE <br />LOCATION: All Residential Parking areas <br />REMARKS: Towing has begun on Esther and <br />Hildreth Streets. Towing will begin <br />on May 1, 1993, in all the other <br />residential areas. <br />
